When Drew Gooden left Kansas after his junior season, I thought for sure the Jayhawks were finished. I didn't think they could do half as good with him gone. But, the following year, the Jayhawks spent much of the season atop the AP polls and played for the national title, losing to Syracuse because Michael Lee couldn't give a head fake before launching a desperation trey with 5 seconds left.

When Gooden left, I was sick.

When Julian Wright left for the NBA last month, I was starting to feel those same feelings I felt when Gooden bolted for the riches and fame of being a NBA player that comes equipped with all of the bling, fancy cars and shoe deals a player could ever want. However, when Gooden left, the Jayhawks did great. So I felt somewhat relieved with the whole thought of history repeating itself and stuff. With Wright out of the picture, there's still a lot of potential for KU ... unless of course if Brandon Rush bolts to the other side of the cash rainbow. Thursday morning, SI.com reported Rush was contemplating leaving for the NBA which gave me a momentary case of the dry heaves.

On one hand, I can understand wanting to be instantly rolling in more money than you could imagine and wanting to wear as much bling, drive bright yellow Hummers and own seven houses - that all makes sense to me. But, on the other hand, I have a hard problem with college basketball losing its excitement to the almighty dollar sign.

It seems college basketball isn't the same as it used to be and in turn, it doesn't seem the NBA is what it used to be and its all because of the money.

Integrity I guess can be swayed with the promise of being rich beyond your wildest dreams. Unfortunately, the American dream is ruining college basketball.
