I know that maybe you all aren't used to hearing something like the title of this blog, but the sentiment behind my statement has become as true as ever. The greatest thing about sports isn't the sports at all, it's the emotion that we all attach to our teams. Whether they're our home team, or just our favorite, sports are about becoming involved in something more than yourself. Even if it's only as a rabid, snarling Browns fan.
Think about it. The Cavs went to the Finals last year, and will likely make a deep playoff run again in the soon to start NBA season. The Indians are an hour away from C.C. Sabbathia throwing a first pitch fastball to the Yankees in the ALDS, which we're going to win going away. And our beloved, down-trodden Brownies are freakin' 2-2! Look at the division standings, Browns fans, tied for second place with the Bengals looking up at us.
Sure, the Cavs aren't picked to win it all this year, the Tribe's odds against the Yankees are even (at best) everywhere I've seen them, and the Browns are 16 (!!!!) point road-dogs against the strongest-team-in-a-decade-Patriots. I gotta tell you, though, if I was any more excited for this weekend I'd have an erection.
Hell, we even have a new AHL hockey team this year. I know that the team has a name, I just don't know what it is. Hey, if I wouldn't have read that story in the paper, I wouldn't even had known that there was a hockey season this year. I can never keep track. They only play hockey every four years, right??
