TEXAS TECH (4-1) VS IOWA STATE (1-4)

Where: Lubbock, AT&T Jones Stadium

When: 6:00 pm central

TV: hell no

Well after one cocktail, beer or glass of wine too many, I’m writing this wonderful post from the back seat of a cab. First let me thank the good folks at Dell and Microsoft. If there was ever an invention that was more screwed up than trying to get a notebook up and running when it’s not connected to a network than a f’n Latitude, then by god I’ve never seen it. Secondly, let me thank the good folks at Yellow Cab for giving the best environment in which to write. I don’t know if it’s the faint smell of wet dog (or something else, I’m just saying), the permanently reclined bench seat in the minivan or the SHABA old school reggae funk coming out of the one speaker in the back, but damnit man I’ve got to write.

As you’ll notice if your one of the hundreds if not thousands of folks who read this blog (or accidentally hit the wrong link) Tech’s last game was not covered here. I have a hard time writing about a CUSA game; let alone a game against a school that I’ve not heard about. But let’s be real clear. The Red Raider’s offense is on a roll. And Harrell and Crabtree are possibly the most dynamic offensive duo to ever hit the plains of West Texas. Why we’re still seeing cover stories (thanks ESPN The Mag) about the felon from Hawaii I’m not quite certain? Wanna compare offenses? Lets. Wanna compare schedules? By all means. Oh wait, you’re riding the tide from pre-season national hype. Please share my condolences w/ Notre Dame, Michigan and all the other schools we’re supposed to be bowing down to.

The Defense is under a new coordinator now. There’s really no way to tell one thing about how this will affect the team until about 6:10 Saturday night. The last game against Northwestern St. means nothing. The arrest of one of Tech’s LBs for marijuana might, but the glorified scrimmage means squat.

What to say about Iowa State? Chizik the new coach was a bad **** at Auburn, took it with him to UT and helped the horns win a national title. Now I’ll be real honest that any coach that gets quotes saying his goal was to be a “CEO of a great national football program” scares me. That’s one too many week’s of working for Mack “Thank You Vince Young” Brown for me. This team really has nobody to talk about. They have a senior QB and a junior ( I think) RB who didn’t even get 1,000 yds last year. This line would be completely out of whack if not for ISU’s not really big upset of Iowa a few weeks ago. That wasn’t an upset because that’s one of those rivalry games where anyone can win.

OVERALL TAKE:

This is a huge game for Tech. Are they looking ahead to the Aggies coming to Lubbock next week? Or do they realize that the South conference in now completely up for grabs and every conference game is a must win now? It’s a home game at night at Jones Stadium. That usually means a big win unless the opposing team is wearing orange and white. Let’s see what happens.

FUN WITH NUMBERS:

Vegas Line: Tech -24.5

Tech leads the all-time series 6-1

Last year’s game Tech’s offense put up 475  yds

ISU’s winless streak stretches back to October 2005

ISU does not have a chance in Lubbock. Well, I take that back. They could scare the Red Raiders with their somehat mobile quarterback. But in the end I see TTU coming away with a demanding victory. At the end of the season, I honestly see Iowa State ending up at the bottom of the big 12.

A team that can beat an Iowa team that was good untill they came into Jack Trice should never be counted out. TTU is having a good year, and will probably win the game, but ISU should not be counted out, because they obviously have the ability for an upset wheather it was a rivalry game or not. And don't forget about Todd Blythe... only one of the greatest recivers in school history. ISU probably goes down, but look for a better game than expected.
