UC Volleyball
The UC volleyball team racked up a great 3-1 win last week over West Virginia State University at Eddie King Gym! The Golden Eagles have won seven consecutive matches.
Freshman outside hitter Jami Turrill was named WVIAC Volleyball Player of the Week last week for her performances in the prior week's wins over Davis & Elkins, Shepherd and Seton Hill.
UC will play host to Concord on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Eddie King Gym before heading out on the road to face Bluefield on Friday and participate in the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational on Friday and Saturday (see schedule below).
UC Football
The Golden Eagles are on a roll! UC defeated Concord University 40-7 at University of Charleston Stadium on Saturday to raise its record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the WVIAC, good for first place in the conference.

T.L. Asbury has been named WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the UC's 40-7 victory over Concord on Saturday. Asbury played a key role as Charleston limited Concord to negative-five rush yards in a 40-7 Golden Eagle victory. Asbury led the UC defense with seven stops and added his league-leading 15th tackle for loss. He also contributed a pair of quarterback hurries as the Golden Eagles remained one of only two unbeaten teams in WVIAC play.
Asbury, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound junior from Frazier's Bottom, WV, joins teammates Chris Rotella (Week One) and Mike Williams (Week Five) who have also garnered WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Xavier Drakeford also won a WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week award in Week One for the Golden Eagles.
Other UC standouts in Saturday's win and nominees for weekly conference awards were: freshman running back Taylor Jovicic rushed 16 times for 99 yards...redshirt freshman quarterback DeRante Hunter rushed for 95 yards and completed 5 of 9 passes...senior running back Rusty Taylor gained 63 yards on a pair of rushes...freshman running back Nick Lockhart scored on a pair of short rushes...senior defensive back Mike Williams returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown...freshman kicker/punter Wes Sherrill booted 29 and 30 yard field goals and averaged 40.0 yards per punt.
Last week, Mike Williams was also was honored with two national awards,
the CollegeSportsReport.com D-II National Performer of the Week and D2Football.com National Defensive Player of the Week.

UC will go on the road to play Shepherd University (3-1) this Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rams are the two-time defending WVIAC champions and are nationally ranked at No. 18.
The Tony DeMeo Show

UC Women's Tennis
UC defeated West Liberty State 5-4 last week to raise its season record to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in WVIAC conference matches.
UC's Bre Moyle, Neha Rana, Erica Lewis and Alexa Kay won their singles matches.
No. 1 doubles tandem of Bre Moyle and Neha Rana also won their match.
UC, the 2006 WVIAC regular season co-champions, will play at Bluefield State and Concord on Tuesday at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. respectively. UC will return home to take on visiting WV Wesleyan on Friday at 4 p.m.
UC Cross Country
UC will take travel to the Belmont Invitational this Saturday.
At the Rio Grande Invitational last weekend, the UC Women came in third place in the team standings.
UC Men's Soccer
UC lost two close games last week. The Golden Eagles dropped a 3-2 decision to Pitt-Johnstown at home on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and lost 1-0 to Mars Hill on Saturday at Triana Field. UC goalkeeper Brent Wilson notched 7 saves against Mars Hill.
UC plays its next game this Wednesday at home against Division III power Rio Grande at 7 p.m. and will take on WVIAC rival Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday at 3 p.m., also at Triana Field.
UC Women's Soccer
The Golden Eagles lost to Wheeling Jesuit by a score of 3-0 at Triana Field on Saturday. Wheeling led 2-0 at half with goals by Katie Groff, 29:57, and Lindsey Groff, 30:31. The Golden Eagles held the edge in shots on goal in the second half, 9-5, and Wheeling ended the game with the edge 12-11. Lindsey Getz scored the games final goal at the 53:30 mark. Wheeling improved their record to 9-2 and UC fell to 3-9.
UC is scheduled to play at Salem International on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles' next home game at Triana Field is Saturday against Shepherd at noon.
UC Men's Golf
The reigning WVIAC champion Golden Eagles will be finishing up at the WVIAC Central Tournament in Davis, WV for second and third round action on Monday and Tuesday this week before going to the WVIAC Southern Tournament at Pipestem State Park on Oct. 10-12.
