It's beginning to feel a lot like last year... Once more, shut down by great pitching. Once more, we fail to hit with runners on base. Once more, A-Rod strikes out again and again and again (and again and again). Once more, the bullpen loses the lead. Once more, walks end up costing us the game. Barring a three-game sweep of the remainder of the series, it'll be another early exit. Torre will probably lose his job. We won't break our necks to sign A-Rod, and he'll go. We'll wring our hands and wonder what we did wrong. But here's my take...there's nothing fundamentally broken about a team that wins 70% of their games over the last few months, and dies in a weekend. What could Torre have done tonight? Jaba was lights out in the 7th when he came in; no brainer to bring him back in the 8th. Rivera pitched two; couldn't go further. Vizcayanu was probably the best arm left, and he walked two. Game over. It's just bad luck, my fellow fans, and nothing more. Which may be the most frustrating part of all. We weren't snake-bit tonight...we were fly-bitten. But it feels the same.

The Indians look better. All there is to it. I'm not gonna blame A-Rod or flies. The Indians pitching has been dynamite. Nearly unhittable. And I think even if the Yankees somehow go to AND win the WS, Torre is leaving anyway. Doesn't matter what happens.

Hey, Coletrain.

It's just so eerily similar to last year...what's up that opposing pitchers turn into gods when we face them on the first weekend of October? Deja vu all over again.

Torre may leave either way...fired for losing, or walking away a champ.

October 5, 2007  10:26 PM ET

True. And yeah, it seems like last year. The Yankees won't lose in 3. They'll at least make it interesting.

October 5, 2007  10:28 PM ET

I hope so...I've got tickets for Games 3 and 4.

But you look at the box scores of these two games...did ANYONE shut us down back-to-back like this? I mean, we did NOTHING.

October 5, 2007  10:32 PM ET

Yeah, the Indians are showing everyone why they're in the playoffs. They were underrated coming in. No so much now. That 1-2 punch of C.C. and Carmona looks ridiculous.

October 5, 2007  10:35 PM ET

Like Rogers and Bonderman....? It's freakin' me out.

As Jim might've suggested, we can whip the horses' eyes. And make them sleep. And cry.

October 5, 2007  10:36 PM ET

Dude, what is up with A-Rod. That guy is gonna get grilled if he doesn't turn things around, I don't get it when he was with the Mariners (my favorite team) he did OK in the post season.

October 5, 2007  10:39 PM ET

Awesome Morrison reference. "This is the best part of the trip.."

Anyway, the Indians look better then the Tigers last year. Not only the starting pitching, but the bullpen(which I've been knocking all year).

His only saving grace this week is that he can say, "Hey...it wasn't just me."

I can count on my two hands the number of hits this team has had in the last two days. And I have the usual allotment of fingers.

October 5, 2007  10:39 PM ET

"The trip...the best part...I really like. What'd he say?"

October 5, 2007  10:40 PM ET

I thought their weak link was the back end...but with these two starting performances, the back end never got tested.

October 5, 2007  10:46 PM ET

Roger better step up tomorrow. Actually start to earn his contract.

October 5, 2007  10:46 PM ET

I mean Sunday.

October 5, 2007  10:48 PM ET

"Here we go again..." an Isley Brothers classic and the Hankees gettin' whooped. Music to my ears...

October 5, 2007  10:53 PM ET

Sox have the bases loaded with one out and Lowell coming up. Ugh. Tied it.

I'll be there Sunday, and I hope I'll be there for a game on Monday. Roger's been what we asked for, I think. Remember what our starters looked like when we signed him. Broken fingers, legs, hamstrings....we were beyond desperate.

October 5, 2007  11:01 PM ET

I must say, this is eerily like last year's ALDS with Detroit. The great pitching, no offense, no bullpen, I don't know what to say.

Even more scary, last year I was at a friend's house for game 2 and this year I had some friends come to my apartment for game 2. Just weird.

I mean, I really just don't know what to say. It basically revolves around A-Rod and the bullpen. If that bullpen can get itself together and hold leads, we'll be okay. If A-Rod could FINALLY start producing, we'll be even more okay. Pettitte pitched well today, and that's what we need from our starters. We gotta turn this series around.

The Angels kill the Yanks, but can't beat the Angels.

October 5, 2007  11:02 PM ET

*Red Sox*

October 5, 2007  11:07 PM ET

We beat the Sox. The Sox beat the Angels. The Angels beat the Yankees.

It's like the world's worst game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

October 5, 2007  11:24 PM ET

You beat the Sox? Was that in '04? Indians-Rockies this year guys. And coletrain, in honor of this TD, eject the Lizard King for one evening and slip on some Ronald and the boys...
