OK, this is a little late, but who gives.
So this guy bought the 756 ball at an auction, ok, no harm.
Sets up a website to figure out what to do with the ball, again, i dont care.
What pisses me off is that the option that won was to brand the ball with an "*" then send it to Cooperstown.
I hope that the Baseball HOF has big enough cajones to keep that ball off of its display.
Ecko, Whether you, the American public, or anyone else likes it or not, this ball is a rightful part of baseball history, legitimate or not. Even if Bonds took steroids, it's still a record. Give the ball to Bonds. Put the ball in a separate, "Steroid Era" place. Blast it into space for all I care. Just don't deface the ball based on "admitted" specualtion.
Thank you Gilbert Arenas. At least you have some sense of what's right in this world. You offered to buy the ball and put it in your "HOF". This is a guy doing something right for someone who has been bashed and battered by all aspects of the media.
I'm not saying he didn't take steroids, I don't want to take a stand on that. What really is annoying about this is how we think we can be the judges of whether gus are inocent or guilty based on a BIASED media. We don't know the truth. Same things happened with the Mike Vick case. We tend to believe what we hear in the newspapers, what people on this site say, and what we hear on ESPN. Sometimes, these guys are right, but when it comes to judging people, did you take the bar exam and then work your way to becoming a judge? I can't speak for everybody, (maybe one of you is a judge) but I would guess not.
My hope is that Mr. Ecko (wait, didn't he die on LOST?) comes to his senses and figures out the American public, for the most part, are biased against Barry Bonds, exception being San Francisco, and takes the ball and gives it to Bonds or the HOF.

I totally agree with you 100%. I think they shouldn't kill someone life long goal and career because you want to sell more clothes or what ever you get out of this. How would he he feel if he design all clothes and right when he was going to sell it stores said that his clothes were garbage and wouldn't sell them. Even if he did take steroids at some point he still hit majority of the Homer runs without steroids. I hope the HOF doesn't accept the ball from Ecko if he puts the asterisk on it.

I whole heartedly and passionately disagree with everything you have said. Whether or not YOU like it, the attitude the people of today have when it comes to Bonds and others like him is also a rightful part of baseball history. When people twenty, thirty, or even one hundred years down the road look at this branded ball, and their kids ask, "Why does that ball have that mark on it?" the parents would have to put things into perspective for the kids. It wouldn't be enough to say that Bonds cheated. The people would have to explain the prevalent attitude of this day and age. Is it right? I can't judge other peoples actions when I am guilty of the very same actions. I also will not apologize for condemning Bonds and others like him when they deserve it. Anyway, attitude does play a very large role in this debacle, and that must be noted. In branding the ball, Ecko is saying so much with so little.
Also, it is not Ecko you should be condemning if you are so infuriated. You should be mad at the people who voted for the branding option. Ecko was simply following the will of the masses.
PS. Do not say defecate. That word has a very different meaning than the one you were trying to convey. The proper term in this case would be deface.
Another thing that must be noted is the fact that the HoF can do whatever the Hell they want. If they choose to not show the ball, great. That would mean that Bonds can finally fade into obscurity, and we won't have to hear about the jackass again, except for murmurs.
If they choose to display the ball, asterisk and all, then that would also be great. It would show that a known cheater did not fool a great number of people. It would also show that the populace condemns cheating. So once again, the prevalent attitude of the time is something that must be noted.

That's the dude with the asterisk right? He is an idiot. All he did was catch the record ball. Now that gives him the authority to mark it with an asterisk? Look, the record is what it is. The ball is a symbol of that record. Give it to the hall of fame and let them display it in whatever manner they please. Wow, fans can decide how the HOF display their artifacts.
