Let's take a hockey angle to yesterday's college football action. I'll give you my three stars from the games I watched yesterday.
No. 1: Jacob Hester, LSU. Keyed the Tigers' hard-fought win over Florida with 106 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.
No. 2: Arian Foster, Tennessee. 17 carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns. The UT running game came to life against UGa and dominated to the tune of 190 yards.
No. 3: Les Miles, LSU. Made all the right moves down the stretch. Call him Midas, eveything he touched turned to gold....or maybe purple and gold.
Hats off to Ron Zook and his Illini. Big win over Wisconsin. He was much-maligned at Florida and continues to get criticized. Big win, now you have to keep it going to get the respect you deserve. Gator fans, you don't win the national title without Zook's recruiting efforts to rebuild a proud program that had not recruited well in Steve Spurrier's final years.
I have always hated the term "moral victory," but I like what my Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders did yesterday. It took ACC-leader Virginia to the brink losing on a late field goal, 23-21. With the depth issues second-year Head Coach Rick Stockstill has had to deal with, it is encouraging to see the team continue to compete in a rough start at 1-5. Coach Stock will have the program riding high in the years to come.
