Upset Trojans may switch QBs
USC quarterback John David Booty suffered a fractured finger on his throwing hand during Saturday night's 24-23 loss to Stanford, setting up a potentially delicate decision for USC coaches this week. Third-year sophomore Mark Sanchez did not play against the Cardinal, but he will probably get some first-team snaps in practice this week as Booty's condition is evaluated.
I find it absolutely remarkable that USC did not tumble out of the top 10 in the AP and Coaches polls after an embarassing home loss they took on Saturday. They lost to a Stanford team that doesn't rate much better than Appalacian State. And Florida with two losses in a row, only falling to number 13 in the polls. When they lost to Auburn, they were unranked and they too lost a couple of embarassing games. The apparent love affair also seems to include the Big 12 as well, i.e., Oklahoma's high ranking and two beatings suffered by Texas. Yet the in the Big Ten, Michigan is still being punished for their two early losses (ugly as they were), Penn State and Purdue can't seem to get a fair shake. And Wisconsin, who I might add went to Champange a three point dog to Illinois and lost a close game. They dropped from 5 to 19. What gives here? Its very sad to see that those who vote for the best teams in the land are so in bed with the Pac ten, Big 12 and especially the SEC. Watch out Ohio State, if you don't win by at least 50 points a game, they'll drop you too.
I'm sure it won't be long before Urban Meyer starts whining to improve Florida's position so he can play for the national title again. He'll be the first one to remind everyone how tough his schedule is.
