Kudos to Ron Cook at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for telling the story. Offensive and defensive linemen often get overlooked. There are no stats for the "O" line, while the "D" line has sacks and tackles, but while they occupy blockers, linebackers swoop in.
In the 3-4 defense, the greatest thing a NT or DE can do is occupy more than one blocker allowing the LB's to shine. Aaron Smith has been a pillar of strength for many years at DE for the Steelers. This year, he is combining with Pro Bowl NT Casey Hampton and DE Brett Keisel to dominate at the line of scrimmage and key the 4-1 start.
