How exactly do you manage a struggling team effectively? How do you manage a team effectively that loses its All-Star lead-off hitter, their best hitting player at the time, and their newly acquired closer all in the first month of the season? Apparently, there is a way; a way that Dave Trembley was not able to figure out as he got the ax from the front office on Friday afternoon before the team opened up a nine-game home stand that brings in the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and New York Mets.
"Nobody believes the reason we have the record we do is somehow Dave Trembley's fault, or that making a change will magically change everything. But we reached a point where we felt this was the appropriate thing to do." - Orioles' President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail on the firing of Dave Trembley.
Andy MacPhail said it himself. Dave Trembley is not and was not the reason for the most recent Oriole failures. Basically, MacPhail said the firing of Trembley was nothing but a front to make it seem like the front office is actually doing something to turn this team and franchise back around. The only way they saw fitting was to fire a man from his job that was not given the tools to perform well.
