Last night i attended the Anual Red - White game in Bud Walton arena. I was mainly interested in two things Number one How good of a coach we actually got in John Pelprey and number 2 how the freshmen coming in looked particularly "Patsa" the Georgian nation player of the year. I wasn't disappointed and saw a few suprises as well.
1. Pelphrey looks to be the coach we needed. He plays the style of Baskatball we as Hog fans love to see. It was like the fast and the furious in red and white jerseys. Players were running 90 mph everywhere they went. Trapping and harrassing each other in full court and half court traps. Most imprtantly they were communicating as team which i ssomething they had lacked as a team over the last couple years. Calling out screens, Telling each other to shift right or left on defense. I think this is definatly the coach for theRazorbacks.
2. The freshman are great talents. Patsasia was having a little trouble getting into the flow of the game at first but really came on with about 5 mins. left. Rebounding getting steals and played good defense all night long. The surprise for me was Sanchez. He has the kind of pure talent that makes coaches and fans drool. Always in the right spot for the rebounds. Blocked shots and did a good job guardsing the Manimal Charles Thomas. Who by the way looks as though he has lost every ounce of his baby fat and has bulked up quite a bit.
The actual 20 min scrimmage was entertaining to watch and the crowd was decent. The autograph session up in the aisle was a great thing for the fans of such things. I took the oppertunity to sit Courtside and was able to throw a couple assists to Sonny Weems as he was warming up before the Autograph session. The players are still Apprecitive of their fans the Coach looks to be great and yes Beverley can still shoot lights out.
