From the early games, here are the statements made:

(5) USF 64, Central Florida 12 - The Bulls did not allow another intrastate-rival to stick around and make a game of it this week.  USF did what a top-5 team should do.

Iowa 10, (18) Illinois 6 - The Illini may be out of the top 25 almost as quickly as it landed there.  Iowa played tough at home.  It is never easy to win on the road in conference play and Illinois found that out today.

Michigan 48, Purdue 21 - The Wolverines chewed-up and spit-out the Boilermakers today.  The maize-and-blue are 5-2 now and probably lurching close to getting ranked again, but of its seven games, six have been at home.  They travel to Illinois next week for a big matchup as the winner continues a drive toward Pasadena.

Georgia Tech 17, Miami (Fla.) 14 - Big win on the road for 'rambling wreck.  Both of these programs are fighting for bowl positions and consistency within its division in the ACC which now looks like will come down to the UVa-Va Tech winner.

Oklahoma State 48, Nebraska 14 - Huge road win for the Cowboys.  Much like the Tech-Miami game, this was a battle for bowl position, that is if Nebraska can work its way into bowl position.  With trips to Texas, KU and Colorado along with home games against A&M and K-State.  Those final five are a combined 21-7 (.667) going into today and 6-3 (.667) in conference play.  Good thing the Huskers fired Frank Solich so the program would not be mired in mediocrity.  Bill Callahan is in his fourth season with a record of 26-18 (.591).  Prior to his firing, in six years Solich went 58-19 (.753), fired after a 10-3 season.  Now Callahan is a "west-coast" offense guy who took over a running team so he needs time to recruit.  In years four and five you should have a good idea of where the program is headed.  Is there patience in Husker-land?

More later....but in Lexington, Ky., UK leads LSU 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  But the Tigers have the ball on the 'Cats one-yard line.
