I have watched 3 World Cup games so far (will watch the repeat of Brazil-N Korea on spanish language tv tonight even tho i don't speak it), & every game plus several I didn't see have ended either 1-1 0r 0-0. This is why Americans hate the sport.
I recognize the ability, but seriously, everybody is afraid to lose so they play it safe. Yesterday, the ESPN announcers even said after Italy gave up a goal to Paraguay that now they would play more aggressive. Actually, they were controlling the action, they just couldn't get into the box because of Paraguay's defense & their ability to block shots and passes.
The problem is, the World Cup uses a round robin format, as opposed to March Madness which is 1 and done from the beginning. This allows teams to play conservative & hope for a tie, since they will get a point anyway. And because of this nobody is talking about the games. On the BBC's website, all the fans are saying this is the worst World Cup ever. Here, it's all about the damn vulvezuellas. I had to laugh-I listen to one tech news podcast a week. TWIT (this week in tech), & it seemed like every 10 minutes or so, host Leo LaPorte would make a reference complete with sound effects of this stupid plastic horn. It's worse than the tomahawk chant Braves & Seminole fans have done over the years.
So while i will continue to watch a game here & there, I am hoping for somebody to actually win a game.
