Welcome to Cincinnati Dusty Baker.

What I like about this move:  Baker is a proven winner, plain and simple.  He had a tough run late as Cubs manager that had more to do with injuries than ability.  Sammy Sosa, Kerry Wood and Mark Prior fell apart.  He gets a lot of flack for causing Wood and Prior's injuries, but Jeff Brantley, well-respected around the game for his pitching knowledge, pooh-pooh'd Baker causing any injuries with his handling of the young pitchers.   The Reds have not hired a manager of this caliber since Davey Johnson.

What I don't like:  How his end in San Francisco and Chicago came about.  He burned bridges in both places so I wonder how he'll fit in.  He also managed heavily veteran-laden squads.  Is he ready to develop youth?

No matter who is the manager, the Reds will have to be better out of the pen next year.  A decent showing by the pen this year and the Reds challenge for the NL Central title.

My opinion:  This move is a good start to the offseason for the Reds.  As we get closer to Hot Stove League action, I'll toss out a few ideas of moves I'd like to see.
