What in the world is going on in Lincoln?? Homecoming week is supposed to be a win one and party weekend, but the game was out of hand 4 Possessions in. Shut out in the first half, the Huskers made a valiant effort to put points on the board in the second half, but the damage was done.
After the loss, we are left wondering where do we go next. The west coast offense was supposed to be a step in the direction of the National Championship, instead we are a leap toward the bottom of the Big 12 and embarrassment.
Coach Callahan says that he doesn't fear losing his job, that he won't coach in fear, but if this streak continues he may be in trouble. I think that what needs to be put in is an Offensive Coordinator/Play caller. Bill has too much to worry about on the field, and calling plays is obviously too much of a distraction to coach effectively.
Steve Pederson just got an extension, and being the AD is kind of a security blanket, his job is probably safe, but Pearlman might do us all a favor and sack him. His demise has been 5 years coming, but the Husker faithful have a powerful presence that have been calling for his head for some time. Boosters have a way of convincing schools on how they think things need to be changed. We'll see what happens.
Coach Cosgrove should be out immediately. I can't even comment on the piss poor coaching and playing on the defensive side of the ball. This was the home of the most feared Defense in the COUNTRY. This FORMER Defense was the starting point of pretty much all defenses in schools across the NCAA. We dominated every game that we played in the 90's, now we are a shadow and looking for direction. Novel idea here, "LOOK AT THE FREAKING TAPES OF THE DEFENSES OF THE 90'S, LEARN WHAT WAS GOING RIGHT THEN AND MAKE IT HAPPEN AGAIN". End of that particular rant.
Now to the players. Lucky had better figure out what his role on the team is. Last time I checked he was the starting RUNNING BACK, not FALLING BACK. He can't get past the line of scrimmage against one of the worst defensive teams in the country and a Freshman out rushes him coming off the bench.
Bo Ruud needs to be the statement player that his brother was/is. This is his D to run, and while he has had flashes of brilliance the overall success/failure of the D reflects on his leadership on the team.
Suh got manhandled again this week and OSU ran right through him. I think that he gets all the hype because of his name. So far all of the hype that we heard before the season and on the radio broadcasts every week has been blown out the door. Get off your blocks, Run Stop, and take out the QB, that is your job. A 340+lb guy like you should not be shown up by a True Freshman Center. It should take 2-3 guys to keep you occupied. If that were happening, somebody else would be able to get into the backfield.
The frustration is getting to me, I'll end for now.
To be continued...
