I tuned into the draft coverage about midway through the first round. I was surprised to see Brady Quinn still sitting in the Green Room being interviewed by Suzie Kolber. First of all what the **** were the Raiders thinking about? Russell is another Culpper at best. The head to head matchup in the bowl game with Brady just proved how bad the Notre Dame Defense was. Brady played well for the first half of the game. The Defense broke down in the second half. I can't blame Detroit for taking Johnson, he is a stud. But any team that needed a QB in the first round who did not take Brady deserve to have high first round picks every year. That includes Atlanta, Miami, Washington, and Buffalo.
Fortunately for Cleveland they got lucky and picked the best QB in the draft after blundering their first chance to obtain him.
Remember when Quinn came off the bench to play his first game for Notre Dame. He was the only bright spot during the Ty era at Notre Dame. He seized that position and would not give it up. He did this without any help from his coaching staff. Anyone who has watched Notre Dame knows there was not problems with the offense with Quinn. They suffered only when the defense failed to show up. The big games Quinn "lost" were not his fault, just the sieve of a defense not doing the job.
Under two years of coaching from Charlie Weiss, Quinn improved his development in understanding the role of the QB in a pro style offense. Brady will be a winner in the NFL long before Russell starts to understand the pro game, much less lead his team to the playoffs. Finally the Browns may be a contender for a spot in the Super Bowl, not just two Ws for my Steelers each year.
