On April 1st 1985 Sport's Illustrated came out with an article about a pitcher who was in training with the New York Mets his name Sidd Finch. Sidd was short for Siddhartha and he had never played baseball before. What was so astonishing was that he could throw a fastball 168 mph one of those radio ball's you could here it but not see it. He also had pinpoint accuracy and for someone that wore just one heavy hiker's boot was something else. After he breifly attended Harvard he went to Tibet to learn Yogic mastery of mind-body which was the sorce of his pitching prowess. The subhead of the article read part Yogi and part Recluse. Despite the absurdity of the article, many people believed Finch actually existed and I was one of the many people. The Mets team went along with the hoax even providing a uniform for Joe Berton, a juinor high school art teacher from Oak Park, Illinois, who posed as "Finch" for the photo's. Here was the clue for the hoax= He's a pitcher, part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga-and his future in baseball." The first letter's of these word's spell out "Happy April Fools day. Despite the clue very few got it  so on April 8th SI announced Sidd Finch had retired and also announced it was a hoax. When the title of my post reads Sidd Finch finally makes it to the Big's I am referring to Stephen Strasburg, the same hype is going on just like it was when you read the story of Finch and also the shoe size is close, can't remember Finch's size but Strasburg wears a 16.5. To me Strasburg is the second coming of Sidd Finch but this is no hoax and it's not April.
