The legendary Tom Osborne has accepted the interim AD job with Nebraska. With "Full Authority to take whatever actions he deems necessary" to make changes in Husker Athletics.
As I stated in my previous blog, He says that there will be no coaching changes for now. He plans to let the Football season play out and make his decision from there. Read into that what you will. Coach Callahan had his press conference yesterday and respectably shouldered the blame of this seasons failures. He will now have a hand in the Defense to see if he can make things go better than they have so far. Since he is an offensive "Guru" and to this point I use the term loosely, I really don't forsee much change. But I'll give him an E for effort.
Comments this week have been made about NU's ability to gain recruits if Callahan gets the Axe at the end of the season. Nebraska was a National Power in football before, with minimal outside help, and can do it again if necessary. Our walk on program was the best in the country prior to the Pederson/Callahan era. The Huskers won their titles on the backs of 8 man football studs, mid- America built beefy kids who love the game. There may be some let down in our recruiting, if the season continues the downward anyway. Callahan will have MUCH more trouble convincing kids to come to NU after seeing the 4 wasted years that we've had. This was supposed to be the turning point, and after finishing in the top 10 for the last 2 years in recruiting, we still have nothing to show for it talent wise.
I really hope that the search for a new AD takes Perlman awhile. I think that the Football program can benefit from the guidance of the man that has taken a team to multiple championships. Tom has the leadership abilities, management skills, and friendliness needed to make a program work. He also has had the most Academic All Americans on his football teams while winning championships.
