So the talk has begun again about the 1972 Dolphins Undefeated Season and can the Pats or the Colts run the table?
The Patriots...
Being a Pats fan my heart says yes but my head says no...
Obviously the Pats proved that they were the team to beat in week 6 against the Cowboys. They should have no problem vs the 2007 Dolphins. I can see the Redskins giving them a tough game but I think they will pull it out.
But then come the Colts in Indy in week 9 ... Which should be the Next Game of the Year.
The Pats are a little banged up right now with Maroney and Morris out at RB. And right now the offence is all gun no run! If a defence steps up and shuts down the pass then the Pats will be in trouble.
Also with Watson (TE) out Brady's safety valve underneath is gone. With all the talk about Stallworth and especially Moss, their most valuable offensive weapon, other than Tom Brady, is Wes Welker. Welker has been able to find lots of space out of the slot with the double teaming of Moss.
The Pats get a bye in week 10 and then finish up with the Bills, Eagles, Ravens (in Baltimore), Steelers (at Home), Jets, Dolphins again, and Giants (at the Meadowlands).
The Colts, Ravens and Steelers are going to give them a hard time and possibly the Giants, as they will be resting the starters in the last game of the year.
So 12-4 at the worst and 14-2 at best.
The Colts...
The Jags are going to be tough this week, really tough! Indy gave up over 150 and 200 yards rushing but only 20 points in their week 2 & 4 wins over the Titans and Broncos. If Indy gives the Jags that much running room this week, they will be 5-1. Then they play the Panthers, before the Pats game, then San Diego (who look like they are turning it around now), Chiefs, Falcons, Jags again, Ravens, Oakland, Texans and finish with the Titans again. That's a tough schedule!
Looks like 10-6 at the worst, if they don't fix their run defence, 12-4 at best.
Now, technically there are two other teams with a perfect record after 6 weeks... The Rams and Dolphins are both 0-6!
The Rams...
As I said in my last blog "never underestimate the importance of a left tackle". No Orlando Pace protecting Bulger's blind side has killed the season for the Rams. They go into Seattle this week, then the Browns, a Bye week, New Orleans, San Fran, Seahawks again, Falcons, Cincinnati, Packers, Steelers and then finish at Arizona. Surely to God they can win 2 if not 3 of those games, if they get healthy.
3-13 at best, 1-15 at the worst.
The Dolphins...
We started talking about the Dolphins Perfect season and we are ending with another possible Dolphins perfect season.
Miami has already put up the white flag on the season with the trade of their best Receiver (Chambers). One could say they did it before the season when they let McMicheal and Culpepper go. They only thing they have going for them right now is Ronnie Brown. The run defence has really hit the skids this season as they are ranked 31st in Run defence giving up 168 yds/gm; last year ranked 8th (101 yds/gm).
They play the Pats this week then the Giants, Bye week, Bills, Philly, Pittsburgh, Jets, Buffalo again, Ravens, New England again then finish at home with then Bengals.
At worst a perfect 0-16 at best 2-14...
Till next time!

No perfect season. You guys play the Steelers in week 14-loss. No shame in 15-1.

I think it's more difficult to go undeafted in the NFL at this day and age, keeping in mind that it's 2007 and not 1972, I think the players are now faster and stronger than before and there is more competition. Also, teams that are a lock to go to the playoffs tend to rest their stars at the end of the season. So we'll see how the rest of the football season plays out!! Oh just hope that none of the star players get injured either!!

Oh, and Cass is right. You DON'T beat the Steelers.
OK, so it's 14-2...

The game has evolved for 35 years since Miami set that record. Since then ... A bit BIGGER - a bit ~faster~ .... a bit more "ME-ME-ME" egos -a couple more pre season games - a couple more regular season games - Gangstas and "Thugs" .............. also

Patriots will blowout the Steelers...especially if Hampton and Polamalu aren't completely healthy...

The Patriots will go either 13-3 or 14-2...but if they do not make it to the Super Bowl...it will be a disappointment...and what they accomplish in the regular season will not mean much.
