Joe Torre received an offer from the New York Yankees for 1 year/5 million dollars, plus 1 million dollars for each level of playoffs the Yanks reach. If the Yanks made the WS is '08, he would have made 8 million dollars in 2009.
He turned it down.
I'm still pretty stunned here, but I feel very good for Joe Torre. The man went out on his own terms. He went out on top.
That said, it's a sad day for the New York Yankees.
What do you guys think?

Ya know what, not to sound so optimistic, but this may not be over yet. Torre may get a multi-year deal for less $$. Just a thought.

Emerson, Lake, And Palmer said it best:
"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. We're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside."

Indeed Cole, what a show.
This was not about money. This was about the notion that Torre would be put in a position to make his TEAM play for him to come back for one more year to open the stadium. Bottom line. He deserved two years guaranteed. I think he would have taken a pay cut.

I think the concept of "performance incentive clauses" for a HOF manager is absolutely ridiculous and quite insulting.

I'm proud of Joe for walking away. He's a class act all the way.
