Now that TO has taken the reigns of the athletic department, his focus will mostly be on the Football team as the rest of the programs seem to be pretty darn good. His major obstacle will be getting Callahans support, and as yet I haven't even heard him mention Tom's name in a news conference. Not the best way to show respect to the man who put this team into orbit with 3 championships to his credit.
Ever since the firing and bringing in Tom, I've been scanning the net, just like all of you, for news on who we might get to replace the existing coaching staff. The one name that keeps popping up is Pelini. It really doesn't matter who the next coach is, except that he has to have the fire in his belly and the desire for greatness. The pieces are already in place for a big run right away, with the talent that Callahan has put together (if you believe the recruiting results). It would be kind of comical if the coach that follows Callahan wins the National Championship the year after he gets the boot. How poor of a coach do you have to be to lose respect in a Pro and a College program?
How many games will be lost in the rest of this season?? Probably enough to keep us out of a bowl game. There is hope, now that TO is here, that there will be enough guidance by the sheer charisma of the man to spur the team to a couple of more wins. But, missing bowl games in 2 of 4 seasons will probably cause a revolt to occur in Huskerland.
I will continue to love the Husker Football program, but my fingers will be poised over the on/off button so that I don't have to listen to the "BOOO's" raining down in Memorial Stadium.
