I'm sorry to say this but somebody had to.  We all saw this coming so I don't understand why everyone keeps making a big deal about it.  At the beginning of spring training, all the players, managers, analysts and even my girlfriend who has never watched a single inning of baseball in her life, predicted that that 2007 Colorado Rockies would win 14 of their last 15 regular season games to force a one game playoff with their division rival San Diego Padres.  They would then proceed to win their next eight games and literally sweep their way to the World Series.  The words New York, Boston or even Detroit never came out of anyone's mouth.  Matt Holiday has been a legitimate MVP candidate since April, everyone knew who Troy Tulowitzki was and Clint Hurdle has always been the best manager in the world.

Okay, so maybe not but let's face reality and be honest here for a minute.  The Rockies ended up winning ninety games this year and now have a legitimate chance to win a world championship.  The same team that paid Mike Hampton about fifteen million dollars a year more than he was worth to sit on the bench and join the elite club of those on the disabled list.  The team that couldn't win when they had both Larry Walker and Todd Helton in their prime.  Instead they are winning with a young lineup of stars that, unless you are an avid follower of baseball, hardly anyone has heard of.  Correct me if I'm wrong but at the beginning of the year, most people had to look up who the ace of the Colorado Rockies pitching staff was.  Some still do now.  Instead they are winning with an outcast, a washed up veteran and a sophomore shortstop.  After his stint in New York, Kaz Matsui was deemed a bust and was nearly forced to sign with a team that had not made the playoffs in twelve years.  Todd Helton had not appeared in the All Star game since 2004 and was seen as being closer to the end of his career than the beginning.  Troy Tulowitzki was a rookie the year before and while he had a bright future, nobody thought he would have developed this quckly.

None of that matters now.  It does not matter if the Rockies played near .500 baseball until the last month of the season and happened to squeeze into the postseason by what seemed like an invisible thread.  It no longer matters if anyone believes whether or not Matt Holiday touched home plate.  Whether the Rockies are actually this good or God has reached his hand down to bless the Rockies with a handful of miracles.  The Rockies belong exactly where they are now.  If they did not, they would have lost in the first round.

The only thing that matters now is that the Rockies have reached the elite of the National League and more so proven their doubters wrong.  they have become the very definition of what Americans and America loves.  The Rocky Balboa and the underdog team of baseball could very well be parading through the streets of Denver, still riding their emotional high a month from now, celebrating the teams first world championship in their first trip to the world series.  Whether it's by fate or by luck, watch out Major League Baseball.
