As we all know, the Colorado Rockies are now in the 2007 World Series. How this happened just seems impossible. Not just the fact that they were able to win 9 of their last ten games of the regular season and then to win in a crazy playoff game against the Padres in 11 innings. But also the fact that they are 7-0 in the playoffs and are looking so dominant that many people have already got them winning the world series no matter who they play. The Rockies entire team has come together the past few weeks and have obviously decided they are on a mission and will not stop until they accomplish it.
Many people believe that the AL is a far better league than the NL. While I believe this myself, the Rockies would beg to differ. The AL has truly been very dominant the past few years and even though they have not won all the world series they have not lost in the all star game in over ten years.
In the Regular season of baseball, here are the rockies stats as a team.
Runs Scored: 860 to only 769 scored by opponents.
Hits: 1591 to 1497
HRs: 171 to 164
SBs: 100 to 96
BA: .280 to .266
RBIs: 823 to 727
BBs: 622 to 504
Xtra Base Hits: 349 to 343
Total Bases: 2489 to 2377
Clearly the Rockies won in all important hitting categories. So far this postseason, those numbers have only improved. Here they are:
Runs Scored: 34 to 16
Hits: 57 to 52
HRs: 7 to 7
SBs: 2 to 3
RBIs: 32 to 16
BBs: 29 to 20
Xtra Base Hits: 10 to 9
Total Bases: 92 to 85
While they are not as dominant numbers as the post season, keep in my that they are going up against much more difficult opponents in the post season. And their record is still 7-0 in the playoffs. The Rockies have made a very strong case for a World Series win.
