Monday Morning QB

Short and sweet this time around.

There was a change of coaching philosophy in the Husker camp this weekend.  Offensive Coordinator, Shawn Watson, was down on the sidelines actually making calls.  Now, in any other system than ours, this is the way it should be done.  Watson is a guy that the players love and is nearly as good at understanding the plays as Callahan himself.  What it brought to the table was the youthfullness and energy that is needed on the sidelines in order to keep the team motivated.  Coach Callahan may be understanding that there are more than 11 guys on his team that need coaching and that from the beginning he should have had his hands on more of the team.

We were actually in the game in the first half.  Something happened, or didn't happen, with the defensive adjustments at half-time that allowed HUGE holes in the D-Line.  Missed tackles, not isolating the QB on option plays, being beaten in the open field by that monstrous running back, and just non-inspired football.

The second half offense was mainly called by Callahan, and we didn't score again.  He needs to leave the offense in the hands of the guy who is getting paid to run the offense and coach the team.  Shawn did an outstanding job of moving the guys down the field, mixing in enough runs to keep A&M's defense guessing.  Callahans play calls start and end with the pass, which isn't getting it done.
