Okay, I have given up any pretense of pretending to work today. Freakin A! I dont even care anymore. Ive worked 120 hours in the past 14 days, I need a break. So time for my Week 8 Picks!!
Last week I went 10-4. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Indianapolis vs. Carolina: Indy.
Carolinas actually posted decent numbers, despite the QB carousel that has featured Jake DelHomme, David Carr, and Vinnie Testaverde (oh theres a joke about riding that carousel bouncing around in my brain, but I dont think the FanNation censors would approve). However, their game averages are hovering around the lower half of the league in every stat except Rushing Yards. Peyton and the boys will remain unbeaten for their meeting with the Pats.
Detroit vs. Chicago: As much as I hate to say it Detroit is going to win this one.
Chicago got LUCKY with that win over the Iggles. Yes, Grieses drive at the end of the 4th was great, but Westbrook was the top rusher in that game with only 79 yards. With the Eagles playing so badly, the Bears should have had more drives like that throughout the game. Detroit has beat the Bears already once this season with Griese under center. The Bears wont make it to .500 before their bye week.
Cleveland vs. St. Louis: Cleveland.
This was a tough one. Clevelands offensive game averages are in the top half of the league, but their defensive averages are in the basement. St. Louis entire game is in the basement. St. Louis is hungry for a win, and this game might be close, but Cleveland will prevail.
New York Giants vs. Miami: New York.
The G-Men look good, and I doubt that even the ridiculous cross-Atlantic flight and six-hour time difference will put a dent in their game.
PS: In case you didnt pick up on it, I think playing regular season games in foreign countries is ludicrous. Dumbest. Idea. Ever.
Oakland vs. Tennessee: Tennessee.
Oakland is making strides, but I just dont think that they will be able to beat the Titans, especially since Vince Young is expected to play.
Pittsburgh vs Cincinnati: Pittsburgh
Now for you purists out there who will say that Im picking the Steelers because I am a loud, proud Steelers fan, let me give you some facts.
Roethlisbergers QB Rating is currently at 101.1. Palmers is currently 89.1. The Steelers game averages (both offensive and defensive) are in the leagues Top 7. The only exception is the Offensive Passing average (which is lower because Pittsburgh has been mostly running the ball). The Bengals defense has more holes in it than Swiss cheese (their Ds game averages are all, I say ALL in the bottom 6 for the whole league). Great Steelers offense against lousy Bengals defense and awesome Steelers defense against average Bengals offense sounds like a win for Pittsburgh to me.
Philadelphia vs Minnesota: Philadelphia
Oh, this was another tough one. Both of these teams are 2-4, and both have played inconsistently this season. Adrian Peterson amazed me when the Vikes played the Bears: he is fast, has hands like fly paper, and is going to be an amazing receiver. On the other hand, Brian Westbrook is a force unto himself. The tipping point for me was the QB matchup. McNabb has the experience over Jackson and he doesnt have a broken finger.
Jacksonville vs Tampa Bay: ehhh....Tampa Bay
These teams are pretty equally matched but my pick boils down to the fact that Garrard may be out with an ankle injury.
Houston vs San Diego: If this game even goes on this week Houston may have a chance. I am not even looking up the stats. The Chargers have more important things this week than worrying about football. IF the game goes on(and it shouldnt) their minds are not even going to be in the game.
Buffalo vs New York Jets: Buffalo
Buffalo gave Dallas a run for their money. Buffalo beat Baltimore. The Jets are looking really bad, and Buffalo has the momentum at the moment.
Washington vs New England: The Pats. Their pact with Satan is still in force.
Okay, seriously, as much as I loathe this franchise, I have to admit Brady is playing stellar football right now. He is a great QB. Randy Moss is insanely good(did you see that one-handed touchdown catch?), and it looks like his acquisition was the most intelligent, karmically balanced move ever made in the NFL. I HATE that they are this good.
New Orleans vs San Franciso: New Orleans
I dont think this game is going to be a blowout, but the Saints are ramping up and the 49ers are not.
Green Bay vs Denver: Green Bay
Farve is having the time of his life, the Packers D is decent, and Denver is inconsistent. Plus I really dont like Denver right now.
Okay, those are my picks. If you make any money off my advice I get a 10 percent cut. If you lose money, you are on your own.
