Pablog, Illustrated

It is a testament to the absurdity of what's currently going on in New England that the bigger story today is not the Red Sox' 2-1 victory over the Rockies at Fenway, but No. 2 Boston College downing No. 8 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Pablog actually attended the tilt last year at Chestnut Hill--tickets were far easier to get back in the day--and stood in the student section with noted Friend of Pablog (and then Boston College senior) Juan Maldonado. The story then, tellingly, was the success of the Eagles' walk-on European kicker and the defense's two sacks and five picks of Sean Glennon en route to a 22-3 win. (A very brief recap on Old Pablog can be found here.)

Pablog's impressions in the present day are somewhat different:

1. Among Catholic universities with good sports programs, Pablog tends to ally himself with Notre Dame rather than BC. Perhaps it's simply because he matriculated at a different Massachusetts college. However: that allegiance may change if the Eagles do the logical thing and adopt John Ashcroft's "Let the Eagle Soar" as their unofficial theme song.

2. Senior quarterback Matt Ryan, nicknamed "Matty Ice" (after this, of course), lived up to his sobriquet last night: first, he coolly led his team to 14 points in the last three minutes of the game, and second, he threw up all over himself.
