For the second time this week a member of the 49ers has left training camp. We still don't know what the issue is with Kentwan Balmar, but now Glen Coffee has announced his retirement after only one year in the league.

This one is kind of weird because he stayed in the bay area in the offseason to work out. He put on 15 lbs of muscle. You don't do all that work then decide to retire a couple of weeks into camp. Maybe he realized that even after all that work, he was still going to be a backup, probably for his entire career. He says his heart wasn't in football since college. Then why did you enter the draft? Like the money, but not the work. Heck, I don't like my job either, but guess what? I have bills to pay.

Ballmar is a different issue. "Personal reasons". Yeah right. Like an agent telling you that you can renegotiate your contract. Guess what? Ain't gonna happen. You are not good enough. You play for a tough sob who's in the HOF. Think he understands? Singletary may play the pr game & say he understands, but really he thinks you need to get in camp or get lost.

This team needs to weed out the losers & underachievers & maybe that is what is happening. But the Niners need to replace these guys with better players. Michael Robinson replacing Coffee is nothing & by that I mean that's the yardage Robinson gets per carry. For a team looking to win a weak division, this is not a good start.

Surprised about Coffee also I don't think after putting on 15lbs of muscle he don't like to work though and with Gore there he must of known he was a backup this year PFW said that "sources" said he looked great the first week of camp .Hope he changes his mind fast or spend a lifetime dwelling on the
"what ifs"

I read that he was in a tough battle to be named the backup. Which leads me to believe that after all the work he put into it, he began to question his dedication to the game and since the best he could do was be a backup perhaps he realized that he may not have the future in football that he always dreamed of.
