What else can you say about New England sports right now? They are at the very top of their game. As a Chicago fan I consider New England to be a personal rival, but I am not so shortsighted that I cannot acknowledge greatness when I see it. I respect greatness, even by my most hated enemies. Right now New England is truly great. That is not a word I would ever throw around lightly. They are great, and they are acting as greatness acts. I congratulate the Boston Red Sox on dominating the World Series and winning the championship that right now is rightfully theirs. I congratulate the New England Patriots for crushing their competition in the first half of the season and putting themselves in a great position to win the Super Bowl and even go undefeated. I even congratulate Opie himself, Danny Ainge, for turning a bottom of the barrel Boston Celtics team into the team that everybody wants to see this season and the one that Steven A. Smith has picked to win the NBA championship. Part of me is disgusted for saying this, but the other part is logical enough to respect winners, and the New England sports teams right now are just that.
But on behalf of the non-Boston sports fans of America, I want to say: I hate you Boston! I hope that your Red Sox don't even make the playoffs next year, your Patriots somehow get beat when it counts the most, and your Celtics don't have what it takes to win yet! And speaking from a personal perspective, I hope Mark Cuban buys the Cubs and signs A-Rod and wins the World Series on the 100th anniversary, the Bears find their mojo next season that they have lost and do what it takes to win the Super Bowl, and the Bulls make the Kobe Bryant trade and win the NBA Championship, at least 3 times in a row!
