Hi all, sorry for no new rankings last week, vacation called... lol Anyhow as always all comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated!!
1. Ohio State Buckeyes - Talk about a statement game against Penn. St., for the first time I am comfortorable putting the Buckeyes on top.
2. LSU Tigers - Alabama will provide another tough test in the S.E.C. for LSU after the Tigers were off last week.
3. Boston College Eagles - Matt Ryan is now the deserved Heisman front runner after the comeback win AT Virginia Tech.
4. Oregon Ducks - Can this team's offense be stopped? Denis Dixon is simply sensational.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils - The win over Cal is impressive, but how long can they keep it uo with USC, UCLA and Oregon still left on the schedule?
6. West Virginia Mountaneers- WVU is back in the national championship picture, it is tough to see them getting beat the rest of the way.
7. Oklahoma Sooners - The favorite in the Big 12, but it is hard to tell if anybody from this conference is for real.
8. Kansas Jayhawks - Still undefeated and winning with defense, anyone should be scared to play them, the toughest test left is Missouri in the final game of the year.
9. Missouri Tigers - This team will get it's shot to avenge their loss to Oklahoma if they win out the rest of the way.
10. Connecticut Huskies - UConn is actually for real, I guess their weak Non-Conference schedule was just what the doctor ordered - confidence.
11. Georgia Bulldogs - In the tough SEC the Bulldogs have a shot to get to the SEC title game after the win over Florida.
12. Virginia Tech Hokies- Losses to LSU and Boston College aren't that bad and the hokies may get another shot at BC in the ACC title game.
13. South Florida Bulls - After the Cinderella start two losses have seriously hurt the Bulls chances at a Big East title.
14. Michigan Wolverines - WHo would have thought this team would still have a shot to win the Big 10 after the 2 loss start to the year? They may be the toughest test left for the Buckeyes.
15. Hawaii Warriors - Still undefeated, yet still unproven, as it has all year, it all comes down to the Boise State game for the Warriors.
16. Alabama Crimson Tide - The only team seeming with a chance to knock LSU out of the SEC Championship game, Nick Saban will get his chance this week to establish he is back and here to stay.
17. USC Trojans - Another loss in the Pac 10 crushes the Trojans title hopes.
18. Texas Longhorns - Texas barely survived a weak Nebraska team and they have yet to beat a quality opponent.
19. Auburn Tigers - This team can compete with anybody and may be the best 3 loss team in the country.
20. Florida Gators- Another 3 loss team that might have an argument about being the best 3 loss team in the country, but Auburn gets the nod for their 20-17 victory over Florida.
21. Boise State Broncos - Last year's cinderella sneaks back into the pulls with a 7-1 record.
22. Wisconsin Badgers - I am still not sold here, but they have rebound strong after the losses to Penn State and Illinois.
23. Tennessee Volunteers- The Vols are the most inconsistent team in the country, yet they control their own destiny for an SEC title.
24. Virginia Cavaliers - The loss to NC State hurts, but it may come down to Virginia - Virginia Tech for the ACC Coastal Division
25. Kentucky Wildcats - This team should still be proud of what they have accomplished this season, putting Kentucky football on the map, no team would want to play these guys, very tough loss to swallow though to Mississippi St.

Another excellent no-nonsense blog... I really like how you see things for what they are (not what you wish them to be). Athough I'm a Hawaii Warrior Fan - I think you placed them well (and very fair). I also have high hopes for Arizona St., but I guess we'll see what they're made of in the next few games. Keep um coming... you're doing a great job!!!

along with MadCat88 i too am a Hawaii Warrior fan. I very much agree with your ranking, and your comment. We are unproven, although, that is not our fault. Michigan, the bunch of pansies they are {good team, so why back out of our game?} could have been a great team to prove ourselves against... but alas they had some other obligations. I think Boise State WILL be the only game we can prove anything this year. And actually so far, I have yet to see Hawai'i play a great game. Every game they play good, but they get stupid penalties and way too many turnovers. They need to really crack down and start clicking. Then I think they could be a truly great team.

Hawaii needs to stay focus on their goal, limit turnovers and eliminate stupid penalties. Plan your work and work your plan to perfection. ALOHA.

Call me a bit simplistic, but I base it on a simpler basis - Wins and Losses. There are always lots of teams with extremely talented players who can't close and drop in the ratings, and deservedly so. Among the 6 major conferences, I don't buy into the concept of a clearly dominant conference whose teams are deserved of overlooking a loss - in interconference play, no conference is more than a game away from being .500 - specific example - the heralded SEC is 5-5, no upset wins, 1 upset loss, and 2 wins much closer than expected.
So for my top 25, take your pick for the top 4 among the 4 unbeatens from the major conferences: Ohio State, Boston College, Arizona State, and Kansas. If they remain undefeated, you could justify any of these at the #1 spot at the end of the season. Until they are beaten, they have earned the top spots. If they win out, they deserve to stay there (wich isn't such a far fetched idea - ASU has a tough road ahead, OSU plays Michigan at Michigan in a rivalry known for upsets, Kansas draws Oklahoma, and Boston College needed a near miracle to stay undefeated)
For 5-9, take your pick of where to place the once beatens: LSU, Oregon, WVa, Oklahoma, and Missouri
For 10 I will suspiciously give the nod to Connecticut, suspicious because the NCAA needs to outlaw the fake fair catch before some kid gets his neck broken.
For 11 recognize the other conferences standouts - Hawaii
For 12-25 take your pick of the 13 twice beatens and another standout from the lesser conferences - Boise State is fine.
This will change a lot with the rest of the season, especially in the bottom half, but no more than the existing polls have.
...but with 3/4 of the season played, there isn't justiied to place a 5-3 or 6-3 team in the top 25 given that no conference has compiled a sufficient non-conference record to show they deserve to have a loss overlooked. After all we aren't pro scouts rating the talent, we are rating the teams, and our ratings should be based on the bottom line - can they post wins?

War Eagle !!! Auburn needs more credit than what their record shows! They are the team to beat this year. Yeah, they did start out slowly, but look at the injuries and suspensions that held out some key players and the beginning. And Auburn stillhas Tristen Davis that will be out the rest of this year with injury. He is a BIG playmamker for Auburn!!!

Interesting and thoughtful analysis. I believe the Wisconsin Badgers will win out at OSU, Michigan and Minnesota and wind up in the top 10 again. I think Boston College will wind up in a "championship" game against a team that lost early instead of late - or maybe not at all (Kansas); leaving us all saying we need a playoff system.
...We all have opinions and that is mine. One thing for sure, I love college football and hate that is already week 10. ...For those that care, you can click on my blog and see my picks for all the games this week.

LSU is one of the greater teams within the NCAA, period. Nowadays it is very hard to even find consistency within a team, and i think LSU proves that they can be very consistent with scoring, and we all know that their defense is a force to be reckoned with. i would'nt be surprised if they win the Championship this year. Everyone knows that we need it. I am one of the biggest LSU fans anyone may ever see. I even have all of their memorabilia. there has never been a season that i can remember LSU not having a good or fairly decent record. It should'nt have been a shock to everyone that they beat Alabama. Alabama has a lot of rising stars within the NCAA, but LSU is more punctual. they came to play, they played, and they won, period. So why all the downtalk from all of you non-LSU fans? Do me a big favor, get on the bandwagon, grab you a purple and yellow tigers shirt, join the rest of us die hard fans, and let's all have a wonderful time cheering for our team. Simple as cake.
