It has been a busy day to say the least in Yankeeland. One which will have reverberations for quite some time. Oh where to begin...
Let's start with Alexander Rodriguez. To you I shall say "Adios". You will be missed, or not. Who will be able to forget those magnificent Aprils and Mays and oh so pathetic Octobers. One will never be able shake from their minds your endless drama filled mannerisms and pleading for acceptance in the eyes of the Yankee Universe. But alas it was all for naught, no? These last few days you have shown the world the true mercenary that you are. It's all about the benjamins, right dear friend? All those words and attempts at trying to solidify your standing in the mind of the skeptical Yankee fan during your 4 season stay were just that, words.
I'd personally like to send a shoutout to all the Yankee haters who took shots at the Yankee hordes by stating that the incessant booing and criticism of Alexander was a negative reflection upon us. As if what we were doing was unjustified. Now looking back, who was right and who was wrong? This man never wanted to be a part of something special, he just wanted the paycheck from the biggest franchise in the history of sports. Like a sixth sense his fraudulent personae was immediately sniffed out and yet he was given every opportunity to prove us wrong. How did he fare in that endeavor? Not to well.
I myself was duped by this rube. His regular season was not of this earth. The greatest regular season I have ever witnessed as a Yankee fan. However, his postseason left something to be desired as usual. Wang let this team down no doubt, but there were plenty of opportunities with runners in scoring position when the mighty A-Fraud did what he does best and that dear readers is underperform.
It is now time for the Yankees to stick to their guns and let this narcissist take flight and seek refuge in the arms and pocketbooks of some other organization. Scott Boras will dupe some foolish owner into believing that Alexander needs only the open, accepting clubhouse of their team to take flight and shake loose his Fall doldrums. Buyer beware is all I can say. Adios A-Rod, we hardly knew ye. And none of us are the better for it.
As far as Girardi is concerned, I feel that this was the best move for the Yankees organization. Everyone loves Don Mattingly, that will never be denied. However he just didn't have enough experience to run a team. If Torre was re-signed for a few years and Donnie was given more time to get a feel for things this would have been a no-brainer. But that is not the way things transpired. Joe Girardi is the perfect fit for this team at this time.
He has proven himself an intelligent, in-game decision maker who is able to motivate players. That is what this team needs right now. Some question whether his ways will mesh with a veteran team espcially since he has played with some of these guys. I think he is smart enough to know that there is a fine line to walk between pushing a veteran too far and simply attempting to motivate that person to perform to their full potential. Only time will tell of course and that is many months away. With plenty of drama to follow these next few months. Now it is time for the Yanks to put this franchise back on a more positive track and adding Girardi is one step in that direction.
As for A-Rod? Let's just label that as addition by subtraction.

I'll never question a person's desire to earn more money. However, he kept trying to position himself as wanting to be more than the highest paid player in the game. Like the money wasn't the biggest thing to him. I think it can now be put to rest that he was all about the $$. And thats fine. But don't try to hide that fact. He'll have enough money for the next 5 generations of A-Rods. But he won't have anyone's respect.
