Pennington has been a great leader and come through a lot to get the Jets to the playoffs last year but 3 points against the Bills and a 1 - 6 record to that point warrants a change.
Also, Vilma has been a great player but does not fit into the 3-4 system since he has to take on blockers which mitigates his sideline to sideline speed. I can't wait to see how this kid from Michigan does as he is supposed to be better for this system.
