If the Chargers can get a 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft for Vincent Jackson, they should pull the trigger. Why? Well, because it would add to an already large number of draft picks the Chargers have in the 1st 3 rounds.
It would give them 6. That's a lot of picks, that early in the draft.
If the Chargers don't do any trading, they could easily use those picks to restock their roster with talent.
-Both the D-line and O-line are lacking depth.
-The Vincent Jackson hold out has shown that the Chargers need more depth at WR.
-With
the loss of Cromartie, and Cason moving outside, the Chargers don't
have a viable Nickel Back and they don't seem to have an heir apparent
to Jammer as the #1 corner
-They need a Safety to play opposite Weddle.
-They need better depth at ILB.
-They need better pass rushers
All or most of these problems could be solved in this draft, and could extend the Chargers dominance over the AFC West well into the next decade.
The more intriguing possibility for me though, is a possible trade with ateam who has a pick in the top 5. They definitely have the ammunition to make it happen.
Can you imagine Philip Rivers getting a new toy like say, I don't know, AJ Green? That could be one of the greatest QB/WR combos in NFL history, and would make the Chargers offense even more explosive, because they'll still have Gates and Ryan Matthews. And then you give that core group of players to an offensive play caller/game planner like Norv Turner? That could be a dynasty waiting to happen.
Of course this could just be me being a blind homer, but I think that these possibilities would scare the crap out of other NFL teams. Am I wrong?
