Congratulations to the BoSox for winning the world series. Congratulations to the Yankees for shifting gears and reloading.
Success can be a burden since it gets a team/ organization fat and happy. Complacency sets in and other teams overtake you. It happened with the Yankees and their dynasty and now the Red Sox have to prepare against it. Case in point may be Mike Lowell. Career year and world series MVP, great feelings within the organization but how does that translate into the next several years? Now, big time free agents can sing the same tune about the Bo Sox as they used to about the Yanks. Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon and Mike Mussina singing that they were coming to the Yanks so that they could win championships. Great job guys.
Now the Yanks, humbled by only getting to the playoffs (which every other team in the league would kill for) are the underdogs, letting the high priced veterans looking for a winning situation go. The Yanks are now making a move to restock with players with something to prove in their careers - something that leads to winning baseball and subsequent championships.
Good luck BoSox - you have a tough road ahead to avoid being the destination for all stars on the downside of their careers. I am assuming of course that the goal is to match the success of the Yankees (winning 4 championships in 5 years) although winning 2 in 4 years is something every other team in baseball would envy.
Congratulations Yanks for making definitive moves to shake things up and build new, true Yankees again instead of hiring mercenaries. The future looks bright.
