The deal that was on the table today was a very good deal. There are too many variables to immediately point the finger at Paxson, but that deal looks so good for everyone involved that I think it is destined to happen.
Bulls get Kobe Bryant
Kings get Ben Gordon & P.J. Brown
Lakers get Ben Wallace & Ron Artest
The Lakers would be getting two high profile players and unload the NBA's biggest distraction, the Kings get rid of their own problem case and receive two players for one, and the Bulls only lose two guys from their current roster plus a sign and trade. That is a really sweet deal that I would have definitely made. Maybe Paxson is playing hardball and trying to trade Hinrich instead of Wallace, but either way that trade looks too juicy to pass up. Kobe would be happy with what's left on the Bulls because they would suddenly be the favorite to win the whole thing. The Lakers could never find a better deal than that and are in no position to reject it if they want Kobe gone. Perhaps the Kings are using their own leverage to try and get more for themselves, but if they drop out they could be replaced by Indiana shipping Jermaine O'Neal to LA or something along those lines and should not jeopardize the deal if they want two players for one. It might not have gone through today, but some variation of this deal is going to happen within days. Mark Cuban has rejected the idea of trading for Kobe so Chicago's leveraged just increased too. I can feel the buzz about this. Kobe Bryant is coming to Chicago. I have foreseen it.
