Well it seems that Vinny is not ready to start for the Panthers this weekend in what figures to be a very physical game this weekend against the Titans in TN. After sticking around Charlotte instead of going home to Strong Island, Vinny received various forms of treatment for the achilles injury he suffered against the Colts last Sunday. Lets just say that didn't do the trick. This is what happens when you are a 44 yr old quarterback in the NFL.
So David Carr it is, broken back and all. Like the Panthers have a choice or something like that. I am not ready to give up the ship yet but this season is slowly teetering on the brink. I don't want to hear about how the Panthers are leading the division. I understand that but if you don't understand that the Panthers are done with the soft underbelly of their schedule you are kidding yourself. The Saints are rising fast and are going to make this a season.
Carr is the Panther's only chance at being able to make any type of playoff run, even in the weak NFC. Sadly however Mr. Carr has not given us Panther fans much hope in his ability to lead this team to the promise land. It almost seems as if the team doesn't play as hard when he enters the game with his tacky gloves and Lord Valiant bowl cut. But the worst part of it is that he is not getting the ball to Steve Smith at all. I'm sure #89 is getting double teamed all over the place but there comes a time with Smith that you have to air it out to him and let him go get the ball, there is no one in the league better at it in my opinion. Seriously, when was the last time Carr threw one deep to him. I can't even remember if he has EVER done that. Hopefully Carr's back is closer to being fully healed and he can step up this weekend. I'm just not too sure if that is going to happen though. This Titan team is tough and physical and he might get beat up some and that doesn't bode well for a guy used to going into the fetal position when pressure comes.
As far as Smith and Jarrett is concerned, I saw a great story about a little ball busting Smith gave Jarrett after practice the other day. It's no news to Panther fans that Jarrett has pretty much been inactive all season. For a second round pick who was supposed to replace Keyshawn Johnson and become the Panthers #2 receiver it comes as a great disappointment. Besides being a waste of an important draft pick (which the Panthers have been doing alot of lately), it places further pressure on Smitty to do it all.
Anyways, Jarrett was at his locker being interviewed and of course he was being grilled as to why he was not playing. While Jarrett was speaking Smith came out from his locker and said, "Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film?''. Jarrett kind of laughed it off but Smith followed it up with "Seriously." I love that. Rumor has it that Jarrett is not picking up the plays fast enough. You have to be kidding me, right? How can this guy not be performing in practice and in film sessions. How can he not be contributing?
Steve Smith is right, get your arse back in the film room and learn the damn game rookie! His underperformance has no doubt hurt the Panthers this year and he should be doing double the amount of work any other player is if he is not picking up the game quick enough. I know the Panther have all sorts of other problems to deal with but the lack of a true #2 receiver is one of the main ones. Kudos (god I hate word) to #89 for applying any type of pressure he can to a player that needs to be helping the team out more.
That's my rant for today. I'll be back with more stuff to complain about in the near future folks.
