Dupe cheating has been a bane of FN TD's.  There has been numerous examples, I will just provide a current one.  DJ's TD about the Jets.  I would provide the link but apparently Firefox is not compatible.  phil garret provided a first argument, then forfeited his second turn.  Yet he got 18 votes!!  Either 18 members of FN are brain dead (a possibliity) or something else is going on.  How obvious does it have to be?  I have seen too many instances where a member made skilled and thoughtful arguments, only to lose to dupes.

I realize that this is a free site, paid for by ad money, resuling from comment count.  But please!!  Many members put a lot of hard work into their TD's.  To have that subverted by dupe voting is just wrong.

Thanks buddy. I couldn't get the link to post.

These are good points Dave.

Nicely done Dave. Hopefully it makes somewhat of a difference but I'm skeptical about that.

Thanks. Something had to be said. I sympathize with the mods. It has to be difficult to define the line between being abusive and a spirited argument. We are not here to hold hands.

Still, dupe voting on TD's is way over anything acceptable.

I have a question: What is with this Schilling caharacter filling up the main board with TDs and direct challenging a bunch of "unknowns"????

WT, that's part of the problem. The rampant use of dupes makes it a hostile environment for new members. It wasn't easy when I joined in '07. I was fortunate enough to get KP's support. This is not an easy site for new members to join, with all the dupe suspicion.

I know.....I made this account in Oct 2008 (and this is the only account I've ever made)...made very vew comments with it. Then became an "active" member around May, when I started to get bored with my work.......was just thinking yesterday.....holy ****....I've made around 5800 comments since then, not to mention all the deleted ones!

But when I became active in April/May.....I remember I had to cut through all the BS. Glad I was able to. It's been fun/interesting.

I welcome new members. Fresh ideas. Seeing another perspective. I was ignored my first few month. How do you like me now?!!?

I wasn't ignored. I was your typical "noob", that voted without commenting and got called out. I didn't even know what a dupe was, and I didn't know any better. Then, I think it was LiHi that pointed me towards one of the blogs regarding "etiquette", and could understand why some people have issues with the "drive-by" voters.

If only there was a way to steer "newer" members in that direction, first.

I'm a little disappoint I started a throwdown last night. That thing got buried. This should blow over though.

Think of it as a kidney stone. It may be a bit painful while it is happening, but it eventually it will pass.

It was different when I joined in '07. My advice for noobs: Be patient. Don't start off insulting other members comments. Simply post your opinion. Try to keep it short and don't fret about a double post. It happens all the time.

Just ease your way in. Not all members are mean, nasty Valley of Death obstacles. Just me.

CD, I'm not so sure it's dupe voting. I think it's mostly people voting on the title. But duping could be part of it.

I mean, the guy who started that throwdown doesn't exactly appear to be someone trying to win. If you're not going to put effort into the arguments, why put effort into creating two dozen duplicate accounts?

But I won't deny that duping is an issue on this site. It's definitely caused members, new and old, to find another website.

It's not much different than "real" relationships. I can say things to friends that are harsh and insulting and it's just banter between friends. Say the same thing to the stranger in line in front of you at Starbucks, you may end up getting punched in the face.

Is it me, or do all of the SCHILLING TDs lok like they've been copied and pasted from previous ones?

There's a can of worms. I'll google some.

I don't know for sure about the voting. I think it's common courtesy to wait for second arguments before voting. I admit to voting for titles, at times. The best example is voting against golf as a sport. Took a lot of grief on that one.

You're right on the situation. Guess DJ is just a cheap, back alley, whor.........

lol... well he could be losing votes for that too. But I haven't read the comments.

I know there are members who don't like to see veterans snag up that kind of TD.
