San Francisco 49ers (2-5) at Atlanta Falcons (1-6)
The 49ers have really let me down this year. I keep looking at this game trying to figure out if this is when Nolan finally pulls it together (while facing a weak team) or if it will be one further embarrassment for the red and gold. My decision is based almost entirely on the fact that the Falcons are going to have to prove to me that they're not already thinking about next year before I credit them with a potential win against any opponent.

Cincinnati Bengals (2-5) at Buffalo Bills (3-4)
I'm not worried about Losman taking the reins again after Edwards got hurt. The Bills' defense ought to be able to contain a Bengals' offense that just hasn't found its rhythm. Oh, it may not be a perfect defensive situation for Buffalo -- after all, no matter how bad Cincy gets, they still have Palmer, Chad Johnson, and Houshmandzadeh. But when looking at it from the other direction, you can see why it ought to be enough: Cincy's pathetic defense won't be able to stop the Bills' offense no matter who's at the helm.

Denver Broncos (3-4) at Detroit Lions (5-4)
The Broncos are going to hope that the trade they made to get Dre Bly is a good one. I know Bly is a great cornerback -- in my opinion, one of the top ten in the league -- but after watching him give up on that 82-yard overtime touchdown pass that Favre threw to Jennings, I don't think his heart is in it this year.
Detroit 28, Denver 24
Green Bay Packers (6-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (4-3)
Manning did it. Brady did it. Now it's Favre's turn to do it. With a win over the Chiefs, Favre will have defeated 31 NFL teams. You've got to root for the guy, even if you're not a Pack fan.
Green Bay 21, Kansas City 17
San Diego Chargers (4-3) at Minnesota Vikings (2-5)
Dang it, Norv Turner. You're going to start looking like a good head coach, and I'm going to be on a soapbox week after week screaming about how it's not true -- it's all the camouflage of having inherited such a good team.
San Diego 28, Minnesota 10
Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) at New Orleans Saints (3-4)
I'd love for the Saints to be the feel-good comeback story of the season, but they still have a long way to go before that happens. And the Jags smell blood.
Jacksonville 30, New Orleans 14
Washington Redskins (4-3) at New York Jets (1-7)
Oh, Mangini. Where did things go wrong? You're putting Clemens in now? Against this defense, still infuriated after the Pats ran up the score against them? You couldn't have done this any earlier or waited until after the bye?
Washington 28, New York Jets 12
Carolina Panthers (4-3) at Tennessee Titans (5-2)
The Titans' offense seems to be regressing week after week, but their defense just looks mean. Sorry, Panthers, but you're back down to .500.
Tennessee 20, Carolina 10
Arizona Cardinals (3-4) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4)
Neither of these teams is as good as their fans want to claim, and neither one is as bad as the pundits want to claim. I have more faith in Tampa Bay at home.
Tampa Bay 24, Arizona 14
Seattle Seahawks (4-3) at Cleveland Browns (4-3)
Congratulations, Coach Crennel. Your job is safe.
Cleveland 31, Seattle 23
New England Patriots (8-0) at Indianapolis Colts (7-0)
I've actually heard this game referred to as Armageddon. Such huge implications! Whoever wins this will be the prohibitive Super Bowl favorite! Hype! Hype! Hype! ...I've considered posting all the reasons that the Colts are going to prove to be tougher than anyone the Pats have faced so far, but the truth is that there's such a glut of information that anything I say would be a lot of static. I'd basically be picking the eight or nine statistics (out of hundreds) that proved the point I wanted to make. And there's no point I want to make here. The only thing that would surprise me in this game would be if the Colts win by 10 points or more. And although I've tried to be as objective as possible when predicting other games, I'm caving in to my superstitious instincts and picking based on hope.
Indianapolis 31, New England 28
Houston Texans (3-5) at Oakland Raiders (2-5)
People in Oakland have been lobbying for the tickets to go unsold, so that CBS will show the Colts/Patriots game instead. People in Houston have no option, and some of them are going to sports bars with the NFL package. They're actually more interested in this other game. Maybe I've just been blessed to root for a team that's been so good for so long, but doesn't this mean you're really not much of a fan of your team?
Oakland 17, Houston 13
Dallas Cowboys (6-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (3-4)
It's kind of odd. Philadelphia loves to hate its star players. McNabb gets booed as much as he gets cheered. Every year they've called for his benching. This year, though, they're calling for Andy Reid's head on a platter, and they're actually more or less leaving McNabb alone. It makes me wonder if this is an escalation of their unhappiness with the team, or if they just really don't like Kevin Kolb.
Dallas 35, Philadelphia 24
Baltimore Ravens (4-3) at Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
I'm never sold on the Ravens. Last year, I didn't think they'd even make the playoffs. I don't know why I'm so uncertain of them, but I do know that the Steelers have given me reasons to believe in their superiority.
Pittsburgh 24, Baltimore 17
BYE: Chicago Bears (3-5), Miami Dolphins (0-8), New York Giants (6-2), St. Louis Rams (0-8)
