Hidden Gem of the Week

Wyoming Cowboys

The Cowboys have a 3 game losing streak but that is coming off losses to Texas, Boise State and Air Force. Cowboys never trailed in the game last weekend against Air Force until the final four minutes, nearly pulling an upset before falling to the Falcons 20-14 on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium, the Pokes were 14 point underdogs.

at Toledo Rockets

The Rockets went to Tuscon to start the season and managed to score a safety, that's a long trip for 2 points. Now they are on a 3 game win streak high that includes last weeks stunner winning at the Boiler Makers.

Look for the Rockets to soar this week, whoever ever heard of a Cowboy riding a rocket?

Game of the Week, sort of

No. 9 Stanford

Stanford is hitting on all cylinders, Luck has been a very consistent QB they have earned their No. 9 ranking.

at No. 5 Oregon Ducks

Oregon had trouble at ASU last week giving up 597 yards to 'Sparky's Bunch', but forcing seven turnovers, in a 42-31 win. That game could have gone either way in the 4th quarter. Doubt the Cardinal give it up at all, least 7 times.

Start time for this game was moved up to 5pm PST and moved to ABC, the Pac-10 is getting some respect. Both of these teams have put up big numbers, hope they have had the scoreboard serviced recently at Autzen Stadium because it should be busy. I like Sanford to win a close one.

How about a Rivalry Game in October?

Navy Midshipmen

The Midshipman lost that home opener to the Terps and have had a week off, they have played well in all 3 games and have had plenty of time to think and prepare for a great rivalry game as this one.

at AirForce Falcons

The Falcons blew out BYU a couple weeks ago and went to Wyoming last week and put up 13 in the 4th quarter for the win. Their only loss coming in Oklahoma by 3.

Altitude could play a roll in this game, I think the Falcons win this one but it won't be easy. You'll need the Versus channel to see this one.

Biggest Cupcake Mismatch game of the Week

No. 4 TCU

at Colorado State Rams

Last week's win over the Vandals of Idaho was a close one 36-34 and the Rams only win this season. They have a true freshman at QB Pete Thomas that led the Rams down the field to a winning FG in the last minutes of the game, I read some are comparing him to John Elway, (they are located about an hour north of Denver). Pete earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors and running back Raymond Carter, like Thomas a four-star recruit out of high school, earned Rivals.com Mountain West Player of the Week recognition. They are going to have to play way over their heads Saturday just to make it a game.

Having said all that nice stuff about the Rams if the Horned Frogs don't leave Fort Collins with a win it will be the biggest upset this season. If memory serves me correct Cal played there a few years ago and had a scare.

"I have fallen and can't get up Game"

Georgia

The Bulldogs have lost 3 in a row to the Gamecocks, the Hogs and Miss. St. Bulldogs. They are reeling to say the least now they travel to Boulder and face the Buffaloes and the altitude.

at Colorado Buffaloes

The Buffaloes have beaten their in state rival Rams, went to Cal and got whooped on (the following week Cal goes to Nevada and gets whooped on by the Wolfpack) and beat the Rainbows 2 weeks ago at home. Not sure what that says about them, did they just have a bad day in Berkley or are they not very good.

The Buffaloes have had a week off and it's the 3rd road game in 4 weeks for the Bulldogs, they will have to battle the altitude and the Buffaloes and I see the home team winning by 10 or more.

Side note: I was in Denver years ago as a teenager and the first day I was there when walking my dog I was out of breath after 2 blocks, so was my dog. That altitude adjustment gets over looked big time!.

Not Enough TV Networks to Cover This Game

Marshall Thundering Herd

The Thundering Herd was soundly beaten at the Horseshoe to start the season and found a way to lose a game they had won to WV in OT. If your neighbor threw his TV set out the window right after that game chances are they are alumni. Then they went to Bowling Green lost big and beat Ohio last week at home.

at Southern Miss Eagles

Southern Miss has a 3 game win streak going including a thrashing of Kansas. Coach Larry Fedora claims the teams strength is their defense despite an opening game thrashing from the Gamecocks the D has not given up more then 16 points in the last 3 weeks.

This game is being played at the same time as the Oregon/Standford, Penn State/Iowa, Florida/Alabama games and needless to say it will be hard to find on TV. This game should have been played on Thursday or Friday night. Oh yeah I like the Eagles by 10.

The Cathoilc Bowl

Notre Dame

Notre Dame fans should rejoice this is just the kind of team they need to play to stop the bleeding. After all the only team the Irish have beaten, Purdue, lost last weekend at home to the Toledo Rockets.

at Boston College

Last Saturday Coach Frank Spaziani finally pulled starting QB Dave Shinskie in the 2nd half after a miserable 1st half, 3 turnovers including a pick in the end zone and failing to throw the ball away in the last seconds of the half electing to run and losing any chance to score. They were shutout for the first time in 12 years.

In this annual game between Catholic schools I like Notre Dame to win by 10 or more. This one could get really ugly the Irish traditionally like to run up the score. Either way Priests will be standing by.

Finally Best NickName Game

Yellow Jackets

Paul Johnson is more confused than panicked by Georgia Tech's .500 record after four games. Georgia Tech was overwhelmed by North Carolina State in Saturday's 45-28 loss to the Wolf pack. The loss left the Yellow Jackets at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference . Johnson says his team has a "Jekyll and Hyde" look due to its lack of consistency.

at Demon Deacons

The Demon Deacons started the year beating up Presbyterian and Duke. Then they traveled to California and faced the Cardinal where they were soundly beaten, last week they could not even score managing only 12-1st downs at Dock Campbell Stadium giving the Seminoles their first shut out in years.

Traveling to California and Florida in consecutive weeks has over whelmed the Deacons, this week they are at home. I like them to win a close one depending on who shows up 'Jekyll' or 'Hyde'.
