Rick Reilly once put in his SI column something like this:"Your wife would say to you 'If your team is struggling, why are you still a fan of them?' That's like saying 'If your kids are annoying, why don't you sell them?'"

Syracuse University might as well sell their football team to a division III college or something, because that's where they belong.  The high point of their season was when they upset then No. 18 Louisville on September 22, who now has a dissapointing 5-4 record.  Syracuse's only other win came last week vs. Buffalo, which says nothing seeing that the Orange has never lost to Buffalo.

This weekend, the 'Cuse lost to fellow Big East failure Pittsburgh 20-17.  If SU wins their last 2 games, they will finish with a 4-6 record, which would be one game better than what SI predicted before the season started.

Probably the biggest problem our football program has is recruiting, because no one wants to play for a team that finishes in the bottom 10 or 20 of division I-A year after year.  In order to have sophmore quarterback Andrew Robinson come to Syracuse last year, coach Greg Robinson had to promise not to give out a scholarship to another QB.

Maybe we have a good basketball season ahead of us, with a great, talented young team.  But is a football team that has a chance at accomplishing anything too much to ask?  It will take a long time, but our football program will turn around eventually.

Good blog. I agree with you. Syracuse is very bad this year and they should improve. Yes they haven't really had any high points this year. The only one, which isn't really high, is against Lousiville. I agree that Syracuse needs to recruit better to win more but since they suck so bad no one wants to be on Syracuse so they really won't get good players to go to Syracuse. Syracuse needs to get better players and Syracuse fans, hang in there. It might be a tough and bumby ride but don't give up on your team. And again, good blog.

The role of a dedicated fan is to stick by your team. However you should not have unrealistic expectations for a team that can't compete. They need a new coach and soon.

tambabay#1fan, I understand that we can't win immediately, or that we should a bowl team right away or anything, and greg robinson has been our coach for 2 years. i do think that, even if it takes several years, that the football program will turn around. that's why i put that part about rick reilly's article.
