First off, I'm not a Celtics fan, and I'm not jumping on their bandwagon. But Gilbert Arenas deserved the criticism that he got for the comments he made on his blog.
He wrote "You might as well just cheer for me, because Boston isn't winning in Boston for the season opener. I'm sorry." Then, after the Wizards' season opening loss to the Pacers on Wednesday, he said to a reporter and on his blog that he wasn't making a prediction on the outcome of the game.
I like Arenas and his personality, but it's too bad that he can't just edit or delete his blog post on NBA.com and everyone will forget about what he said. Even if he did do that, I would still be writing this blog post, and people would still be talking about it.
Fine, anyone can cheer for him anytime they want; he deserves praise. He can hit a buzzer-beating three to send the game against the Pacers into overtime and score 34 points in that game. Apparently, that isn't enough to make his team win, as they lost the game, 119-110. The Wizards have lost their first three games by an average of 14 points per game, including the Celtics game by 20. The Celtics Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce scored 67 points. The Wizards three best players, Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler, scored a total of 49 points. I have a lot of respect for Arenas, Jamison, and Butler, but they're no competition with Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.
When his team can't help him win, then he can't say that they'll win, which, by the way, is the definition of a prediction.

I couldn't care less about Arenas' comments, but the fans in Boston sure let him have it about them. They chided him from opening introductions right through the final buzzer, even after he had been taken out of the game in garbage time. Some guys thrive on that, but it sure didn't make him look good on national television.

hibachi... at least he shows some passion and isn't out there for the paychecks... it proves that he pays attention across the league... could you imagine the media frenzy if terrell owens or kobe bryant did this? i know arenas is a star in the league, but outside of basketball, nobody really knows who he is; he hasn't transcended from pro athlete to celebrity yet...

Arenas is a special player, and passionate about the game. Passion sometime however can cloud reality. What he doesn't realize is that this team really isn't that good. Certainly not good enough to predict victory.

It's early in the season, folks; the ship GETS righted.
I don't see anyone ELSE in the NBA, putting his money where his mouth is, when it comes to Gil and the fans. I mean, $100 for EVERY point he scores @ home (matched by the owner AND his wife for road games)...c'mon, think Kobe or AI's gonna do that??
I have Gil's jerseys (home AND road); see my profile if you think I kid.
Oh, and I have one word for all the Gil-bashers: HIBACHI!!!
