In response to:
Why Twins won't trade Santana
There is doubt that Minnesota will move Johan Santana for two main reasons: 1) Taxpayers helped fund the Twins' stadium that opens in 2010, and it could be considered a breach of financial faith with the fans to lose Torii Hunter and Santana in the same offseason, and 2) with Francisco Liriano due back from Tommy John surgery there will be a feeling Minnesota can excel around starting pitching and, if the Twins don't contend, they still could consider moving Santana at the July 31 trade deadline.
Why won't the twins trade Johan? With Kevin Garnett gone I don't think the Minnesota fan base would be shocked if he were traded to the Yankees, Dodgers or Red Sox. The time is now to trade him and get the best deal for him. The logical place would be the Dodgers who sound like they are willing to give a bunch for him. Look for the Twins to ask for Matt Kemp (rf), Jonathan Broxton (p), Clayton Kershaw (p), Andy Larouche (3b) and throw in Preston Mattingly as a bonus. The Twins probably have the best young pitching in baseball and can win with them. Add a free agent power hitter.....maybe ? Barry Bonds for two years and you have a world series contender for the Dodgers and Twins!!! 1965 World Series rematch.

1) Liriano might not be back to his old self after surgery (see Kerry Wood and didn't Jamie Moyer have those surgeries?) 2) Trade Santana and there's essentially no hope of contention for the 2008 or even 2009 season without Hunter or Santana. 3) Who would be the veteren on the pitching staff without Santana? Bonser? Silva's gone and all of the rest aren't over 25. None of them have completed a full season as a pitcher which gets into fatigue problems for the bullpen.
Although maybe Pohlad will kick the bucket or retire or have an Ebineezer Scrooge-like turnaround and sign him for the rest of his career, take the Twins to 3 World Series titles with Liriano as a #2 and Hunter will become the new color commentator on Baseball Tonight still wearing a "TC" on his hat. That would be sweet...
