In constantly reading the reports out of these GM Meetings (November 5th - 8th), some things are becoming clear:
It is all about A-Rod but as I have blogged in the past, the market is not there at his asking price. Only the Angels have expressed interest here. When his price goes down things will get interesting.
Johan Santana is going to go on the market and the smart, big money teams will go after him and eliminate another suitor for A-Rod. I bet it is the Mets. This will leave the Angels as the only team even expressing interest in the 24+1 player near the $30 million per year range. I expect his price to drop significantly.
Mets are also going after ptiching since they need a boost there and Glavine is going to go back to Atlanta. That might actually benefit the Mets more than one would think.
Everyone talks about the Yankees need to replace production at 3b with A-rod leaving but the other corner position, 1B, has no power and I would not be surprised if you see the Yanks boost their numbers there. a 54 HR, 160 RBI guy at third is hard to replace but 2 25+ HR, 80 RBI guys at the corner positions is much easier. Start with Scott Rolen.
Finally, you know that Bonds will play for somebody next year but for who? Nobody will touch this guy with a 10 foot pole but somebody is going to take the bait. He is 64 hits away from 3,000 and that alone justifies his signing. Who is it going to be?
