Tonight was senior night in Seattle for the Washington Huskies. Their Thursday night Pac-10 matchup with the UCLA Bruins went as planned... on the scoreboard at least.
The Huskies sent Jake Locker and the other 15 senior away as winners. While they still have 2 more games on the season, this was the final home game of the Seniors college careers.
Jake Locker was given a standing ovation when his name was announced before the game. As he trotted off the field after his final play with less than 2 minutes left, the crowd gave him another.
Chants of "Thank you Jake" rained down on the field. The seniors were giving hugs and high-fives all over the place. The Huskies had won 24-7 to keep their bowl hopes alive.
For Jake Locker, the game wasn't perfect. It was just the 6th time in his career he had thrown for fewer than 100 yards. He was only 10 of 21 passing, but none of it mattered.
Locker is one of many quarterbacks in a long list of great Husky QB's. In fact, 15 of Washington's last 17 starting QB's have gone on to play in professional football. 13 of which in the NFL. Locker, will make that 14.
Jake Locker is one of the most selfless players I have ever seen in any sport. Despite 4 years worth of dissapointment in terms of team performance at UW, Locker has never once pointed the finger. He's done pretty well for himself I'd say, and he deserves it after staying loyal to his home state.
Anyways, tonight wasn't pretty for Jake, but he got his team the win. Even if he hadn't, I'd be here to say, congratulations Jake Locker, on one of the best careers in Washington football history.
