The Lickliter era began in great fashion Friday with a victory over Idaho State. Granted, the competition we saw Friday is nowhere near the caliber of what we'll see in the Big Ten, but we did get some answers to questions about this season's Hawks.
A freshman point guard? Yeah, Jeff Peterson looked fantastic. He did a nice job of advancing the ball against pressure, finding open teammates, and limiting turnovers.
Who will take up the slack for injured Tony Freeman? That question is still unanswered. When Peterson went out, we really struggled just getting the ball into the front court. That's going to be a problem.
Who's going to replace the scoring we lost from the transferring of Tyler Smith? Justin Johnson looked like he could be at least a part of the answer. Kurt Looby looked bigger and stronger than last year and did a nice job inside.
The Hawks are off to a nice start. There's going to be some great games and some not so great. That is to be expected. But I definitely liked what I saw from our new look team.
Go Hawks!
