After the embarrasing loss to the St. Louis Rams, Jed York stated his desire to find a General Manager who would hire a new head coach. York, who kept saying during the season that the 49ers would make the playoffs was quite upset with the teams performance in a game that could have put the team in the playoffs.
York actually referred to how badly the team played in the first half, but said he didn't want to do something right after the game, because that would be based on emotion. but this implies that Mike Singletary will be fired.
He suggested there would be a national search for a GM, & that the team would be looking for a quarterback. This is what needs to happen. One gets the feeling that Jed knows that to build that new stadium, he needs the fans to feel that ownership wants a return to the good ole days. He wants this team to compete for Super Bowls, like when Uncle Eddie owned the team.
So who are GM possibilities? Mike Holmgren, currently with Cleveland but a SF native, maybe Chris Polian of Indy, or someone with the Pats. For coach, the fans want chucky or Jim Harbaugh. But another college coach with no NFL HC experience seems like a very bad idea. Brian Billick seems to have been auditioning for the job during the Niner games he has broadcast.
And to be honest, anyone would be an improvement over Big Mike, who always looks upset when the Niners score (scoring bad, smashmouth, even if it fails good). And I'm guessing Roger Goodell wants the team to succeed based on the past image.
