I'm a huge Derek Fisher guy.  He's never been ranked as one of the top point guards, this year was no different, he didn't make Yahoo's top 30 list.  There were many bench players on the list as well as a guy whose never played a minute in the game (John Wall #17) which I'm not arguing.  Fisher's value isn't in the stats.  He brings class and locker-room/court leadership to one of the better teams in the history of the game.  He's got ice water running through his veins and consistently hits big shots in big games; he isn't the quickest guy but takes a charge just about every game which keeps his guy thinking.

As of late he's turning more into a Robert Horry type player, all year you hope the Lakers get rid of him and then the playoffs start and you hope they do whatever they can to keep him on the team.  He gets burned all game long by these quicker point guards and he has too many of these terrible shooting nights.  I think it's about time to give Steve Blake a chance to start and let Fisher guard the other benches point guards.  This would be a position where he won't disrupt the entire defense (as much) when he gets left in the dust off the dribble and the bigs need to leave their man to stop the ball.  Steve is younger, a bit quicker, taller, hungrier, his passing ability next to Fisher is ridiculous, his shot is purer then Fisher's, he's just as tough (see youtube fights with Dwight Howard and Andrew Bogut) and has ice water in his veins (he hit the game winner in his first game as a Laker).

Phil Jackson's loyalty towards veteran guards runs so deep to a fault so I don't think it would happen but I think it would definitely fix a lot of the problems they're going through right now.  If you look at their stats you'd probably have an argument for Fisher over Blake but think of this:  Fisher plays with All-Stars Pau Gasol and Kobe, post-player Andrew Bynum and defense minded Ron Artest.  There are a lot of kick outs to Fisher for wide open 3's.  Fisher shoots 41% from the arc right now with mostly wide open looks.  Blake shoots 42% from the arc with Matt Barnes, Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom along with either Gasol, Bynum or another bench guy like Luck Walton (yeah, I said Luck, when he ever makes a shot, its luck) or Derrick Caracter out there with him; he doesn't quite get the same wide open looks.  His passing to the starters would only help their offense get better.  Fisher's court leadership would only help the bench when things aren't going so great.

Am I wrong here?
