As all the TDers will know, I don't TD much anymore (about 2 or 3 in the past 5 months).   Now that I tend to be lurking more (I mean commenting more), I thought of a way to improve the site immensely.  I've never actually heard of this suggestion, so bear with me if this has already been brought up.

The idea applied to the entire site, not just TD's.

In the "Comments" section of T&R, Blogs and TD's...I find myself leaving comments that I expect responses to.  They are either debate starters, insults, insights, etc... and naturally people will quote the comment and reply.  Hell, sometimes I just say hi to someone or have a friendly chat.  I then find myself going over pages and pages of posts (on busy topics) just to sort through any questions/answers/replies to something I have said or asked.

The entire site should have an option like Facebook does (ughh I actually said Facebook is good for something).  You know, how you can fix your settings so that you get an email (or don't get them) when something happens on your page that you want to know about?

I'd like to get an email telling me when someone has quoted my response, posted on my blog or commented on a TD (maybe not that last one though, as it would be a ton).

There should be a "settings" feature or a Control Panel where we can check that option off.  Granted, I use this site mostly as a time killer, but it would seriously cut down on my skimming if I could just check the comments/posts that were applicable to my discussion.  When I really want to read through 20 pages of fluff and stupidy, I can (or will)... but I should have the option to avoid it!

That would be a cool feature. Luckily for me, I usually forget what I said and where I said it about 30 seconds after I say it.

They haven't made any significant changes to this site since 2008, so don't hold your breath.

I'd really like to see FN eliminate comments about sexuality. They usually denigrate the conversation down to grade-school levels, with dick jokes, or the usual "that's what your mother said" type of stuff.
Makes me think I'm dealing with a bunch of losers.

Well, think of those spam emails you get. "I have a million dollars in an account, i just need your bank info to get it." They must trick some people, or I wouldn't get the chance to have an inheritence from the Sultan every couple months.

Agreed. The comment back-tracker is a great idea.
It works well on YouTube.

Seriously now. Open the purse strings up a little and hire a weekend mod. This joint is troll and spam central from Friday evening through Monday morning.
