Let's say that a team would offer multiple picks like a 1st round pick with 2nd round or 3rd round pick, and with an additional pick for the next round based on performance. This should be a great measuring stick for JJ to see if he has a championship quarterback, but if no one is willing to give anything higher than a 2nd rounder with a 3rd or 4th rounder then Romo should be traded.
There are other players that should be traded that have some decent value are Barber and Bennett, unfortunately R. Williams does not carry a lot trade value, maybe. Bennett's value can be a 2nd rounder with a 4th or a 5th, Barber's value can be a 3rd with a 5th or 6th, and Williams can be another 3rd with a 6th or a 7th. These players could add more picks to this year's draft for the Cowboys.
Romo, Newman, Brookings, Colombo, Davis, Gurode, and Kosier are all over 31 years of age and their performance had a drop off this past season. The team needs to get younger, more talented, and with players who want to play for championships instead of money.
The Patriots have 14 draft picks this upcoming draft with 2 picks per round while the Cowboys only have 7 draft picks with 1 pick per round. The Patriots traded Seymour for a 1st rounder and Moss for a 3rd rounder. They knew that they needed to get younger while still having the best record even though the Jets beat them this past Sunday. While as the Cowboys have traded with Cleveland to draft a need at corner, but they ended drafting Jenkins. And they traded multiple picks including a 1st rounder for R. Williams that left the without a pick until the 3rd or 4th round during the 09 draft.
Needless to say that the Cowboys need to get wiser for this year's draft and hire coaches that can coach up players.

OK, here's where I want my cake and eat it too. I've said in the past the Cowboys should be more like the Pats and trade or release players in decline while they still have value. But the other side is I'm not quite ready to throw the towel in on Romo just yet. If you DID trade him, what would do at QB? Both backups did well but I don't think I would want to go into a season trying to get into the playoffs counting on them for the full season. McNabb? I like him but think we have about the same think in Kitna.
I'll give you Barber, Williams and Bennett. do you think They could get multiple picks for those guys now? Even getting 3 2nd or 3rd round pics would be good to have this year. Are teams going to want to deal with the labor uncertainty looming.
You best point is dead on, they have to get wiser in the draft this year (and free agency/signings)!

UBP, I'm thinking about starting from scratch at QB and draft one using the high pick or getting another high pick via a trade.

So you're at the point to pretty much blow it up and start over. The only thing that scares me is they have SO MANY needs. O Line, D Backs, probably another receiver and or tight end. and then are you going to give me a top front office guy to run the draft, or make me use my current GM? LOL Now I'm REAL scarred!!

UBP, I agree that the Cowboys have a lot of needs that need to be addressed that 1 draft can't cover. So the Cowboys need to stockpile draft picks for 1 draft and use next years draft along with a few free agents. Definitely with a new GM because JJ will squander the draft picks.

Yep! Wasted a 2nd round pick on Quincy Carter to begin the post Aikman era.

And Quincy hasn't been the only wasted pick. Guess this is a conversation between you and I. So are you still coaching and where? I'd like to try and keep up with you.

Yeah, a lot of folks like Romo too much, but they can post a comment whether they agree or disagree. If they think its worth it.
