I remember my fist "date" It was with Sarah Konovalski and my dad took us to an Elton John concert. This was like between 1970 and 72. I was so pumped! Then there was Yes with Rick Wakeman. Roundabout, Fish, Six wives of Henry the Eigth. Led Zepplin with John Bohnam. Then there was the Moody Blues. And so many more that I can't remember. But my first concert was in 1965 or so, saw the Beatles. I'd tell you I heard them, but there were so many screaming girls I couldn't hear a freaking thing.
It used to be that you could get a ticket for a couple hours work. Nowdays it's a few days! I remember the first ZZ Top Barn Dance and BarBQue with Willie Nelson. I asked my boss for the day off. He said what if I said no? I told him I'd quit. He said OK so I did. I took a little hippie girl, we couldn't find a hotel room in Austin so we slept in my sleeping bag in a roadside stop.
I've been to some great concerts, how about you? I'd love to hear about them...
This is for you Kagan!

My grandpa took me to my first concert when I was 5.
We went to see Garth Brooks back when he was the hottest thing in the music industry.
I've been to a ton of concerts.
George Jones and Merle Haggard were two of my favorite concerts.
The last concert I went to was last April when we got a party bus to take us to see Hank Williams Jr, Eric Church and Jamey Johnson.
We're going next month to see Kid Rock and Jamey Johnson.

Are we talking "concerts" only - or do "shows" count? How would you differentiate a concert from a "show"? When I think of concert - I'm thinking thousands of people in a stadium or a large arena. When I think of show I think of clubs or small arenas. Personally, I prefer shows although I've been to a few really memorable concerts. I'd have a hard time selecting the best show I've seen.
Best concert Ever - Day on the Green, Oakland Coliseum 1991, Metallica, Queensryche, Faith No More & Soundgarden
Best show Ever - Morbid Angel, Entombed, a couple of other thrash bands I would remember except those brain cells no longer exist.
Since I'm married now and not crazy anymore, I've seen Joe Satriani about 7 times the last 10 years and not really anybody else.

Concert or show would both qualify. I like shows better, smaller crowds and more intimate.

The first concert that I went to not that I'm proud it was David Lee Roth (Solo) w/ Poison. I have Been to a ton of concert/show over the years. Probably one of my best would have been Billy Joel/Elton John. Have also seen Alice In Chains twice (1Lane Staley/ One New Guy), Nirvana, Megadeth (4), metallica(2), Ozzy(4),and quite a few more.

My first show was a band called Sly Fox. They were on the radio then. It was in a 1500 or so seat civic center where I grew up. Went with my sisters. Maybe I was 10. Remember liking "feeling" the noise, the volume. Liked the energy. First real concert was Ratt and Poison in Dayton. I was 14. Guys behind us bought us beers. Sweet. Last show was Clapton last summer. Great show. I saw the Stones, Pink Floyd and U2 at the Horseshoe. Metallica and AC DC to many times to count. I haven't seen everybody yet, but I'm trying.

I can't begin to name the bands I miss seeing. I guess that will be the topic of another post...

I could ramble on about all the bands I've seen live. I could break them down by eras in my life.
Live music is like, so heads and shoulders above just listening to it on the radio.
Yes, do save it for another blog. Let's make this a great group.

Bought my brother's ticket to The Who at the old Chicago Stadium and weaseled a ride - for those who never heard the Ox live on a bass riff - my heartfelt sympathies. as far as ticket prices - this one was $10 for a main floor seat.
First date concert - Beach Boys and Chicago
others - just a stream of consciousness list: Allman Brothers, Outlaws. Queen, Thin Lizzy, Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, BB King, Muddy Waters (Stones played a set at Kingston Mines as his back up band), Albert King, Bobby Blue Bland, Clapton, Elton John, Dire Straits, Boomtown Rats, Boston, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Jimmy Buffett, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Little Feat, James Taylor, Pousette-Dart Band (a New England regional gem from the mid 70s), REO Speedwagon, Styx, Santana (1973), Atlanta Rhythm Section and probably a few more back there in the better living through chemistry days of yore...

My first concert was Billy Joel in the early '80s. He put on a great show. My favorite concert was Pink Floyd.
