Greetings and welcome to the Minnesota Timberwolves' blog, I've been writing this for almost a year now, but have recently decided to start this group and publish it on another site. The original site is www.codyanderson.blogspot.com there you can find all the previous posts from this season and you can visit that site, it is a bit more visually appealing (w/pictures), but all posts can be found on both these sites from here on out. Thanks for reading and any questions or comments feel free to do so below. The Minnesota Timberwolves defied all odds as they were the underdogs by quite a bit 84-16 in tonight's contest! Even with 4 of their players due to personal reasons or injuries, the Wolves claimed their second straight W, both on the road, defeating the Houston Rockets 112-108. My original projection had Houston winning 120-111. It was a big night for the Wolves, a big win and it was a big night for Wolves forward Kevin Love who claimed his record-setting 38th-consecutive double-double to tie the franchise record of 37 previously held by Kevin Garnett. Moses Malone holds the record of 44-consecutive double-doubles and it would be silly to think Love won't reach it, but we'll know by the end of the month! Minnesota was without starters Michael Beasley (sprained left ankle), Darko Milicic (strained hip flexor), Luke Ridnour (personal reasons) and without reserve Martell Webster (back spasms). With these key veteran players out, Minnesota turned to their young bench who obviously got the job done! Wayne Ellington, Sebastian Telfair, Wes Johnson and Nikola Pekovic all had solid outings that propelled Minnesota to their 13th win of the season! Apparently Owner Glen Taylor's demand of more wins from his young team, sparked something for the Wolves lately! The Rockets led by 2 points after three quarters, but instead of Minnesota falling apart in the final quarter, like they've been suspect to do numerous times this season (or rather the entire 2nd half in general), they outscored the Rockets 29-23 in the fourth, the lead them to a narrow 112-108 win! Back-to-back threes for Minnesota: one by Ellington with 54 seconds left, followed by a HOU timeout, K-Mart hit 2 free throws, Love then hit a straight on three with 36 seconds to go, Courtney Lee then missed a baseline jumper, Love rebounded, was fouled and hit two free-throws with 5 seconds to go, to seal the win! Let's take a look at some of tonight's top performers, check up on our key matchup and leave you with some final notes... KEY PLAYERS WOLVES -Kevin Love: 20 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists -Wayne Ellington: (season-high) 18 points and 4 assists in 25 minutes off the bench -Jonny Flynn: 15 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal (also 5 turnovers!) -Sebastian Telfair: 14 points and 3 assists in 17 minutes off the bench -Wesley Johnson: 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks ROCKETS -Kevin Martin: 23 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists (9-of-9 from the line) -Courtney Lee: 23 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in 29 minutes off the bench -Luis Scola: 22 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal -Kyle Lowry: 14 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal KEY MATCHUP CHECKUP Kevin Love vs. Luis Scola -Kevin Love led the charge for the Minnesota Timberwolves' crushing the Rockets on the boards by a +20 margin! 31-51. Love held Scola to just two boards for the entire game! However, the same can't be said about Scola who allowed the NBA's leading rebounder to pull down 14 on the night! Both forwards had solid outings on the offensive end, both have done more in particular games this season, however, both have done much less! Scola did have an impressive stat of his own with 7 assists on the night compared to Love's 3! Love's dominance over Scola on the glass was the deciding factor in Love taking home this key matchup checkup! The Minnesota Timberwolves will be back in action on Friday in Indiana as they look for their longest winning streak of the season (3)! Tipoff for that one is set for 6pmCT and a full-gameday preview can be found on this site before then! Thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!
